HOME, HEALTHY, AND HAPPY
March 3rd, 2008 I have finally kicked this brutal flu, and 10 lbs. and one pathetic beard later, I am somewhat back to “normal”. Ed’s on the mend as well, and is markedly less gray-faced and phlegm-riddled than he was last week. Now we’ve got a month or so to recharge, rehearse, and relax. For me, it’s all about dusting off the BBQ, following Angels spring training games, watching the Lakers dominate, and gearing up for March Madness. There isn’t a better time of year, as far as I’m concerned. Sports geekery aside, I spent so much time whining about the cold and apologizing for being ill in my last couple posts, I totally spaced and forgot to thank the dudes in Say Anything and their crew for being great tourmates and helping make our first legitimate Canadian tour, a great one. Many thanks to them for helping make the tour happen. Don’t forget, the “Come All You Weary” digital single will be available tomorrow (w/the remix of “Digital Sea” and acoustic version of “The Whaler”). That’s al for now. Be well. -riley |

Ryan
Riley’s antics are the whackiest of them all…
Jorge
Glad to hear the Breckenridge Bros. are getting better. I can’t wait for April, it’s probably going to be the best month of the year, unless you guys come around Orlando again before the end of the year (please?) First we get Vols. III and IV and then 2 weeks later a live performance. You guys are the best.
Vince
Can’t wait fellas…can’t wait.
Blake
I am waiting with bated breath….
Moony
i seriously thought that waiting for parts 3 and 4 would take forever… but april is creeping up on as quicker than i expected!!! long live thrice.
Trask
Good to hear that the both of you are feeling better. I personally have no interest whatsoever in basketball (football is my sport), but enjoy March Madness. I know I’ll be hearing about it from all my friends.
I am so psyched for that single. So. Psyched.
HAY
hopefully the apocalypse doesn’t happen before I hear the songs
X
COME TO F*** EUROPE SOON.
Adolf
Im disappointed in the “Come All You Weary “.
I was expecting you guys to fuse some form of natural sound to the track.
And as a matter of fact it sounds to alike with Dustin Kensrues Solo work.
Not to sound so judgemental but just want to state some truth.
I love Volumes I&II songs, but im not feeling this song for the Earth ep.
AT ALL ! =/
Vince
Adolf, I agree, but disagree. It sounds like Kensrue’s solo work in the very beginning with the Verse, but the Chorus is epic. Enough to make the song as great as it is. I enjoyed the verse more in the live versions, but hearing them all sing in the chorus is just…love it.
As for the Earth EP, still thinking I’m going to love it most.
“Moving Mountains” is beautiful, and “The Earth Isn’t Humming” is just haunting, though I think maybe too obscure for Thrice. I wish “Blanket of Ghosts” had been on it (like a band version maybe) because it has the Earthy feel to it. But I wouldnt want to take away from other songs of course.
I guess everyone has their own opinion, but I wouldn’t declare anything as “truth.” Truth is, there are a hell of a lot more “LOVE IT” responses compared to “I don’t like it/hate it” ones. By a landslide amount.
Ben
I think “Come All You Weary” is a beautiful song.
Matty
I wasnt thrilled with alot of the “non - heavy” Thrice stuff at first too. But now I absolutely love it. Even when I first heard Vheissu I was skeptical, because I was expecting another TAITA. But now I may enjoy Vheissu even more(just maybe), and the Water EP is only getting better with each passing day, (Fire can never get any better because it is too amazing). I am really stoked to hear the rest of Air. Plus, I just heard “The Earth Isn’t Humming” cover on a radio station and it was FANTASTIC!!!! I CANT wait until april 15th!!! I will continue to buy Thrice music as long as I live!!!
Unfortunately I probably won’t buy the “Come All You Weary” digital single because it is digital and I want an actual disc. Plus it could use a bit more content….like maybe some B sides. Thrice has kick ass B sides (Flags of Dawn, The Weight of Glory, Lullaby, That Hideous Strength, Eclipse, Motion Isn’t Meaning, and probably more that I am missing, so that would have been nice
but regardless…. Thrice = perfect
Jess
haha @ HAY’s comment. try not to think about that!
Thanks Riley.
April is taking its time :(
Goodluck!
Jess x
Logan
from the beginning, I was expecting Earth to sound a lot like Please Come Home anyway… I’m not going to listen to Come All You Weary until it’s available on itunes, but actually from the short clips I’ve heard of it (from the studio blogs etc) it actually sounds LESS like Please Come Home than I expected, which is cool (not that I don’t love PCH).
that said, I keep checking the itunes store every so often today in the strange and probably futile hope that the EP will appear on there a few hours early… haha.
Matt
Boys!
Glad to hear you’re doing better.
I also am watching the Angels dominate the spring (thus far), and btw, Torii Hunter is a hitting machine right now!
Can’t wait for the season to start!
Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow… :)
drew
any idea when the presale starts for vIII and IV?
Katie
i am totally going to be an unhappy camper if iTunes doesn’t put the ep up at midnight, because i am pretty much only staying up for that.
and why is may so far away?
just come back to the midwest already.
Corey
May 20th at the Ogden…I’ve already got shivers up my spine. I’m with Katie, that thing better be up by midnight, haha. Who wants to make a party out of this thread until it gets here?
Logan
I’m in.
Moony
vince what do you mean by “maybe too obscure for Thrice”? those 3 tracks you mentioned are exactly what i imagined for earth.. I CANT WAIT FOR MIDNIGHT!!
Corey
Any of you guys know where I can listen to the Frodus cover on the Earth disc? I’d like to be in on this discussion, heh.
Corey
Never mind, I’m listening to the master now. Never heard of Frodus before, but this will be cool to hear all Earth-ified.
omair
todays my birthday. let that be known!
i plan to buy the digital ep…:)
Moony
hey corey i’d never heard of frodus before thrice posted that bulletin about the out_circuit… these guys are sooo sick its a shame they broke up but you can check out some of their songs over here http://frodus.com/download.php
Corey
Thanks Moony, I definitely need to look into some of their stuff more. Also, happy birthday Omair, haha. I wish I got a Thrice EP to come out on my birthday. A concert would do good too, haha.
luke
does it come out at midnight on itunes?
Vince
well, “the earth isn’t humming” is very poetic, yet in a very, very vague way, whereas with thrice’s normal lyrics you can kind of pinpoint after a couple listens at least a general idea of what the song is about. this one’s a little more difficult (at least to me) and it doesn’t really give huge clues as to the meaning. very strong song with nice lines, but not usual thrice material you know? if i didn’t know it was a cover, I’d guess it was just becuase it doesn’t follow dustin’s normal type of lyrics.
as for the ep…yeah, i hope it comes up soon. im waiting up too…damn though, nothing yet…
carlos
its up and that remix is rather strange, rather chaotic…hmmm
Katie
midnight here and i dont see it yet.
LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!
i am so pumped for the dillinger remix.
they’re the second best band out right now (after thrice, duh)
Katie
nevermind… it’s HERE!
Corey
Gah, I don’t see it. Maybe it doesn’t release for me for a little while longer? Grr…
Katie
last post of the night, honest…
soooo
anyone else totally thinking a thrice-dillinger mashups tour/album would be straight up the most AMAZING thing to ever happen? crapping of the pants would definitely occur.
Ryan W
Where is it?? Hahah, I still don’t see it.
Katie
Corey, after searching for thrice, be sure to click on the music tab. the ep for some reason isn’t showing on the main thrice results page.
eric
so the dillinger remix is completely awesome.
let’s get a whole album of remixes…that would be great.
Corey
Now on sale at the Thrice/Dilinger Tour Merch Store: replacement pants for those who need them.
They would make a killing, haha.
Corey
Aha! Found it. Thanks Katie.
Jason
So uh digital sea remix is weird, reminds me of aphex twin at the end.
Corey
Final post: this EP is sick. Can’t wait for April 15th.
Stefan Martin
You guys were even more amazing the second time seeing you, and I got one of your picks Eddie! You guys totally made up for having to listen to that terrible band, oh what were they called….. SAY ANYTHING. They were so terrible please never tour with those douchebags again, It was like a high school band gone wrong up there and the singer was terrible.
On a better note you guys put on the best show I have ever been too and I mean that in all honesty. I love how you don’t care about trying to get on the radio and stuff and make music the way you want to and not how the industry wants you too. This truly makes you guys the most artistic talented bands out there today. I bought the Fire&Water discs the day they came out and I was soooooo blown away. The Fire disc gives me the heavy stuff I loved about you guys, and the water disc just opens up my mind to what a band can do. I love how you don’t listen to the idiots who don’t want you to explore and expand your horizons.
Honestly the people who say the new stuff have no taste and they truly do not know what it means to evolve as a band and BECOME WAY BETTER THAN YOU HAVE EVER BEEN! Please keep making the best music the world will ever hear for decades. I cannot wait to see you again in Pontiac, MI. I know I will not be dissappointed! Keep it up guys, I hope to meet you some day! Please come out and talk to the fans sometime :)
JM
dudes, i cant find it… freaking out lol
JM
any candians able to download it?…its telling me i have to wait til march 11th!
kate
nothing in the canadian store yet :(
Moony
vince i gotta agree with you lyrically speaking it doesnt sound like something dustin would write but the original sounds very thrice like…at least to me. It’s 12:08 HOW IS DIGITAL SEA REMIX!?!?! I HAVETN GOTTEN IT YET
Sergio
Right off the bat, the EP i was looking forward to hearing the most was EARTH. Now, after hearing the studio version of Come All You Weary, im sure its going to be the most epic of the 4 elements. I cant wait.
long live thrice.
Adrian
“That’s al for now.”
Who’s Al? ._.
Trask
Damnit, I have to wait until I get home to listen to the EP! Seven and a half more hours…
Logan
digital sea remix is freaking weird! but definitely interesting.
Chris
Does Dillinger Escape Plan really sound like that?
Oh and to everybody who doesn’t see it on iTunes yet, follow these directions.
-Go to iTunes and type in Thrice in the search box
-When it comes up, go to Thrice’s “page” if you will (I think you all know what I’m talking about)
-When you see all the albums, sort by “Release Date” and you will see it.
kate
is that just the US store? I can’t find it in the canadian one. OMG PLEASE TELL ME IT’S BEING RELEASED IN THE CANADIAN STORE.
Eric Hood
Love the EP, guys.
As soon as I have the money I’ll download it all.
Looking forward to House of Blues in Anaheim.
Jamie
why doesn’t someone from the US that has it, play it on their computer and rip it into a wav or mp3 file using www.freecorder.com
to get past drm if people can be asked and want it that bad.
x
Joe
because that wouldn’t support Thrice :)
HAY
it also would be illegal without their permission.
Scott
Chris - No they don’t sound like that at all. One of the guys from the band just remixed Thrice’s song. Its not supposed to sound like Dillenger Escape Plan. Dillinger Escape Plan is math-core, kind of like Botch, Coalesce, and Converge.
Hugo
3 dollars? That’s like 2 euros now.
I’m on this like a very cool metaphor that I can’t make up right now.
SeanLang
Sort of off topic but did anyone see Dillinger Escape Plan on Conan? It was hilarious.
SeanLang
“it also would be illegal without their permission.”
Pfffff, like the laws of man have ever stopped me or anyone else from doing something they want to.
Hugo
Why the hell isn’t it available for me, when I don’t pretend to come from the USA?
I’m seriously pissed off at Apple right now.
Adam
Wish they’d put it up on the UK iTunes!
Hugo
Anyways, I was lucky enough to get around it. But that won’t happen for most in the same situation.
By the way guys, the video feels WAY better than seen on myspace or youtube.
And since I’m never going to get to see it on TV (my guess) this was a feature that I’m pretty happy with.
Trask
Today is a Good Day.
Good Thing #1: My 11-page research paper on punk guarantees that I won’t fail history
Good Thing #2: I just got my driver’s license
Good Thing #’s 3-100000: Thrice’s EP is out and it is wonderful
Jamie

for the europeans out there, make sure you buy it!
and make sure you THRICE take this link down asap :-)
i just think us europeans deserve it at the same time, considering we still dont have a tour. Give us something huh ?
carlos
i heard earth and air never got recorded and that it’ll never be released
Matt
carlos, you ignorant slut. lol
if it wasn’t recorded, why is there a release date, and why have we heard samples?
Holly
who knows the second verse to ” come all you weary” ? I know it not. well, a certain part I can’t tell what is being said. Help!
Jess
oh @$%* carlos never say that again!
Jess
Thrice lovers would grieve for such a thing : a non-release of something HIGHLY anticipated
Vince
Come all you weary, with your heavy loads
lay down your burdens, find rest for your souls
’cause my yoke is easy, and my burden is kind;
I’ll take yours upon me, and you can take mine.
Come all you weary, move through the earth,
you’ve been discarded by restaurants and kicked out of church;
I’ve got a couple of loaves set down at my feet,
lend me your ears and (we’ll break bread to eat?)
Come all you weary
Come gather ’round near me
find rest for your souls.
Come all you weary, crippled you lay
I’ll help you along, you can lay down your canes,
We’ve got a long way to go, but we’ll travel as friends;
Light’s growing bright further up, further ahead (?)
Come all you weary
come gather ’round near me
find rest for your souls.
———————
I think these are the lyrics. Question marks on the end mean the last line is uncertain. Hmmm…
mark
man i really want to hear some air tracks now…i really have no idea what its going to be like
Craig
Vince, i’m pretty sure those are the right lyrics. I originally was basing lyrics around the video I got of the show and thought at the parts you put “?” at that it was “lend me your ears and break bread with me” and “light’s growing bright further on towards the end”. Now that i’ve heard the true version I can obviously hear the word “we’ll” which makes the first line I thought originally wrong and the second line doesn’t even fit with what Dustin is saying at the end.
Overall, think what you put is about as close as anyone will get (possibly even 100% correct) until lyrics are officially released.
Other than that, glad to see you’re better. Going to be seeing you guys at the end of the next tour at your stop to california, should be a blast! Couldn’t find anyone that had free time to go so was about to just go to it alone (cause it’s too awesome to pass up, of course) but my cousin is turning 20 that week and he wants to go so I get out of paying for my ticket as i’m going with him AND won’t go alone! I can already sense with the way my luck leading into it is going, it will be an awesome show.
ty
why doesnt canada get the ep till like the 15th that is a piss off i spent all day stoked to come home and download it. oh and anyone who doesnt like come all you weary is a douche… to say it politely. pretty much amazing live.
Craig
A few more things I forgot to mention in my last post: The EP’s are amazing! Love playing The Whaler and Come All you Weary rather loud in my new surround sound system (woohoo!) and just sitting down relaxing with my eyes closed just listening… simply amazing.
Also totally off-topic, but I feel happy because I had to write a poem for my english and was tempted to use a bit of a changed up version of the final two lines of “Don’t tell and we Won’t ask” where it says “don’t we all know life is sacred, don’t we all know we bleed the same red blood.” but I didn’t out of respect for Dustin’s stunning lyrics and it would make me feel guilty. Odds are nobody cares about that, but it made me feel good I didn’t do it.
Nick
Matthew 11: 28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (TNIV)
Inspiration for this song I beleive
Thanks for this beautiful song guys!!!!
Logan
anyone figured out why the vocals sound so weird/cool in the first chorus of the Digital Sea remix? they’re a lot more dry than the original song, but something is definitely still weird about them and I can’t put my finger on what it is.
Logan
oh, and I believe the correct 2nd verse lyrics are:
Come all you weary, move through the earth,
[you’ve] been spurned at fine restaurants and kicked out of church;
I’ve got a couple of loaves, so sit down at my feet,
lend me your ears and we’ll break bread and eat
“spurn” is a weird word, but I looked it up - it means to reject or regard with distaste. it sounds right, goes with the meaning, and I think Dustin probably knows that word. :)
Neil
The harmonie is turned up in the first chorus. Thats probably what it is.
Denise
Glad you guys are feeling better.
I tried looking for the EP at a couple music stores in the local mall. I’m from Canada, and I didn’t happen to see it in any of the stores. As kate asked, has it even been released here yet? o_o
Jimmy
I feel like it’s “Come all you weary, you crippled, you lame” for the third verse
alvaro
album version of CAYW is the same of myspace version?
anyone can send me the album version, Im spanish and i don´t have a credit card.
thanks.
Melissa H.
first and very foremost i am so thrilled with “Come All You Weary”.. i’m now even more excited for parts 2 and 3, if that’s even possible. i’m so excited for the tour! Circa and Thrice together, along with NEW Thrice, will be quite a show! also, i’m psyched to see Pelican, even though i’m not very familiar with them - i’m sure they’ll be awesome. last and most definitely least i can’t help but cringe every time the Lakers are mentioned.. i get it, hometown and all.. but still.. ugh.. ;)
Vince
I like that Logan. Yes, “spurned” sounds right. Good catch buddy. Cheers.
Sean
Theres this vid on youtube with lyrics on the bottom guessed by the creator, sounds right to me:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=E_3-fKC9ls8
kate
Denise, the EP is digital only i think. You won’t be able to find it in stores. The only thing is, it’s not available in the Canadian itunes store.
Denise
Kate;
Gotcha. I didn’t notice that small detail. =X
In any case, thanks!
Stijn
Why is the EP not yet available on the belgian itunes store? We have to miss out on the live split with thursday too…!
alvaro
album version of CAYW is the same of myspace version?
carlos
yes
Logan
come all you weary is a great song, but I really want to hear it in the context of Earth. I thought the come all you weary EP was going to help me make it through the month until April 15th, but instead it seems to have made it worse!
Jonathan
Why can’t I purchase your Digital EP on iTunes in Canada ?
Holly
thanks guys. sweet, i thought it said something about restaurants.haha. in n out is the best.
hey, hey! :)
M.a.r.k
Downloading the e.p now… excited to hear the high quality version on headphones, plus the b-sides too.
bit late in mentioning this but I was lucky enough to see Thrice and Brand New in NYC Hammerstein Ballroom in December after flying from London, England. I wanted to see you guys play some new material so much, so I worked my ass off to afford tickets for my girlfriend and I.
We NEED a U.K tour asap, can’t wait to hear Earth / Air material live too
come all you weary = ACE!
Moony
logan you’re so right this ep has made the wait more unbearable… 10 respect points to DEP for this remix… so artistic
MJ Powell
Man, I love the song “Come All You Weary.”
It is so great, the lyrics and everything. It is so true. Keep the biblical illusions coming! It makes the meaning of the song so much deeper. Keep it up Thrice!
Tyler
so ya come all you weary is very great. im so happy with it. broken lungs was probably the best at the concert tho. ne way ya i think the person who said. spurned at fine restaurants is probably the most correct.
Ben
lol, I think Ben Weinman has been listening to too much Squarepusher.
tim
I listened to my friends copy of the remix. I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on it. I looooovvveeee Digital Sea, but I thought the remix was really poorly done and sounded rather amateurish. I could see what he was going for, but it was just poorly executed.
Matt
tim-
I loved the first half of it, but from the 2nd chorus to the end, i completely agree with you. i didn’t like that part at all… seemed poorly executed to me as well.
but whatever. i still loooooooooove Thrice. lol
sean
If anyone plays Guitar Hero 3 - GREAT NEWS! The Arsonist is available to download as a pack with 2 other songs.
Whooo! I get to be Teppei!!
sean
If anyone plays Guitar Hero 3 - GREAT NEWS! The Arsonist is available to download as a pack with 2 other songs.
Whooo! I get to be Teppei!!
Chris
Wow, that would be cool!
I just looked it up and it said “The Arsonist” by Thrice or Urbandub (whoever that band is…)
But even if it is Thrice, I only have GH3 for PS2…
Gah….
Matt
thats so freaking cool.
im surprised its not Firebreather or Burn The Fleet.
actually, i’m really surprised it’s not Burn The Fleet.
hey, has anybody played the Firebreather game on Thrice’s myspace?
its amazing.
Weihsin
actually, i’ve played the Firebreather game on myspace and i’m so..not good at playing it! but it’s great though =D
Dwayne Charrington
Hey Guys,
Just thought I’d drop in to tell you that I am working on a HUGE idea. I have decided to create a Thrice Social Network at - http://www.thricescene.com. I am in the works of coding it up now as we speak. It will be COMPLETELY FREE, btw. Waterispoison.com seems to be outdated at the moment and the admins haven’t updated the site in months and months. So I guess it will be home to many members of Waterispoison.com. Bookmark the url or something.
You will be able to:
* Create your own profile like myspace.
* Upload Thrice media; Images, ringtones, wallpapers, videos, tracks, etc.
* Review other thrice media people have uploaded.
* Submit reviews, rate reviews.
* Discuss, chat, to other users in the community forum.
I have other features planned, but I’ll save them for the website unveiling.
- Dwayne Charrington.

Joe
digital sea remix = :(
adam?
thrice?
guitar hero?
seriously?
i must investigate.
adam?
oh great. not for ps2 though.
i hate sony.
Joe
anyone have any frodus stuff?
They broke up and dont sell merch anymore :(
Hugo
I don’t have the right to say this but I think Thrice allowed the remix on the EP more out of friendship than good judgment. I am sort of disappointed with the remix (I really like Ire Works though).
Bombs Over Vheissu at least had momentum.
Maybe if it were longer heh. I think a remix of practically any song of an Alchemy disc should make the song longer, since the Alchemy songs tend to be pretty compact, if you know what I mean.
But at least I supported Thrice.
Trask
The only part of the remix I don’t like is when the vocals get sped up a lot, with all that percussion behind them. I absolutely love the ending, though. If you took the original Digital Sea, took out the distorted-vocals ending, and added the cleaner-vocals ending, it would be my personal ideal song.
kate
new thrice portraits here http://www.dustinrabin.com/flash/flip/portraits/photo_gallery.html
Trask
Ha, Dustin is wearing the same hat of which my sister owns 8 variations.
Cody
I’m digging Come All You Weary and the acoustic version of the Whaler is pretty cool too, but I’d have to say that the remix is awful. Digital Sea is a good song, but the remix is horrible. I mean, it’s a pretty cool effect at the end right? What’s that called? Holding down fast-forward? Brilliant!! Nah, I’m being a jerk. But yeah, it’s terrible.
Weihsin
” kate
new thrice portraits here http://www.dustinrabin.com/flash/flip/portraits/photo_gallery.html”
I love those pictures
Matt
Hmm, gotta say, I’m not liking the remix at all. It all just sounds…wrong, and very poorly executed.
Acoustic version of The Whaler is excellent though so it’s all good.
Kyle
I think its about time Thrice released a song from air. Broken lungs perhaps?
Matt
kyle-
i’m sure we’d all agree.
i know i sure do
Matt
Amen to that
Weihsin
Of course we all agree
luke
word.
Moony
most definitely
Trask
No, don’t release an Air song! That’s one less surprise for me to flip out in ecstasy about when Vols. III & IV come out!
HAY
i think i’ve already heard to much and need to wait until it releases so im not stealing the experience away from myself.
kate
me too…but it’s soooo tempting!!
was anyone from canada able to purchase the CAYW EP from itunes?
Jimmy
I don’t know guys. I really do like the first half of the remix, as well as the slowed-down ending. It’s just the fast part I don’t quite understand yet - it doesn’t even sound like 4/4 anymore. That being said, I think the idea they got through in the first verse and chorus is sweet, and the second verse sounds pretty damn good as well. I can’t bash it much if at all.
Logan
I dig the remix from top to bottom, personally. want normalness? listen to the original. I think the second chorus is pretty artistic, and what else would you expect from DEP personell?? :P
Logan
I totally spelled personnel wrong. and, don’t release an air song please! amen to what Trask said.
Ben
You’re surpised that a remix by someone from Dillinger Escape Plan doesn’t stick to 4/4?
Have you ever heard any Dillinger or IDM before?
Hugo
What bothers me the most about the remix is all the empty space on it. A lot of silence, and it’s way too short =P (see my last post)
I’m fine with tempo changes, but it also means the song ends sooner, if you know what I mean. I like the instruments on it a lot.
But it burns up so quick you don’t get to enjoy Matisyahu AHEM Ben’s concept for the song. I don’t savor it. And not the oh-its-so-good-it-ends-too-soon way.
Re Release Remix EXTENDED VERSION! lol
love all these musicians.
Chris
Here’s the thing about the Remix.
What DEP did was completely make a new song out of the lyrics to Digital Sea. A cover if you will. Remixes aren’t supposed to be like that, it is supposed to come at the song from a different angle, a new “spin” on things, and give it different flavor. But it still needs to remain loyal to the original.
I didn’t like it.
Sorry, Thrice
Or do I apologize to DEP?
HAY
the fast static part in the Digital Sea remix would be interesting to do a video to.
kate
i wish i knew what the remix sounded like. somebody make a link for it?
Katie
i think there’s a tad amount of over-analyzing going on. :-P
and i think it’s because we’re all freakin’ bored until vols. III and IV are out. oh, and the tour.
but yeah. i still stand by the remix. two of my favorite bands had a love child in the form of that remix. so yeah.
Scott
Dude, i totally agree. I was just thinking the same thing. I am tired of reading everyone’s comments. I want updates and new music. April is going to be the best month ever. New thrice music. College graduation. Moving back to SoCal. Also add in the fact that I am going to see thrice three nights in a row in May. I freakin can’t wait. I hate school…
Craig
Just downloaded the track pack that has The arsonist in it for GH3 about an hour ago, and damn… was playing on expert and it looks like an easy song to play on it, but it’s odd finger movements and i can’t get 100% notes hit…. but I still think The Red Death should have been the first Thrice song to be put on. On a side note, hurray Scott for moving to SoCal! I live in Riverside where it’s meh, but overall I enjoy SoCal. Also, i’m going to be seeing Thrice when they stop by at the end of the tour, but only going to one show instead of three like you. I’m so jealous.
James Beal
Can’t wait to see you guys in Atlanta w/ Circa! I came to your show when you guys were last in Atlanta w/ Norma Jean and it was awesome!!!
BTW: I’m working with a school charity group and we’re trying to raise money for an orphanage in Uganda. Today we had a meeting and watched the Invisible Children video and the name reminded me of your song Image of the Invisible and i know you guys give some of your albums proceeds to charity. A little web research and I found out that you did donate to the relief of Uganda. We know that your schedules are slammed full of shows but if interested in playing (that would be awesome!) a charity show or helping us out in anyway, please contact at: http://www.myspace.com/docjames or email jwb_007_us@yahoo.com
Thanks!, James Beal
Katie
someone should totally give me the inside scoop on SoCal.
probably moving there next year and its always awesome to get the insiders’ view. best cheap areas? younger areas? lack of fake, plastic people?
Scott
Im moving back to Yorba Linda where I’m from which is in North Orange County, right next to Riverside Craig. Katie, sorry to say but most of socal is fake, plastic people. Haha, sorry. But its still great. Huntington Beach is phenomenal and I plan to move there in September. Its a younger crowd and relatively cheap for Orange County. The further inland you go, the cheaper it gets. Its just a matter of how far away from the beach you want to be.
Moony
Dude scott… socal wood prolly be the most boring place in the world had it not been for the beach… end of story. i cant wait till i move out after i transfer
Sebas
Hi guys,
I’m from Argentina (South America), I tried to download the songs from the Itunes Store, but I believe that, as I’m not from the US, Canada or UK I can’t buy those songs right?
Is there any other way to buy/get those songs? I can’t stand any more these comments about remixes and acoustic songs and not being able to listen to them! Please somebody help me!
Hugo
Hey Sebas,
I think us Thrice fans can tell where Argentina is lol… I think
The only way I see right now is for to take the link above (ends in zip) and pay for it when it comes out for us living off US soil.
My favorite feature might still be the video, since after the album comes out the main song will be pretty much of no additional value.
Polish Chef
I saw open water the other day - what inlanders call a break in the ice. It made me reflect on the different meanings & how on the coast it has an isolated feeling, but here it’s more of danger, suspicion & surprise. It made me think of you guys. Take care.
Ricky
Dude, moony is way wrong. I’ve lived in SoCal my entire life, and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. We have so much stuff to do! There are plenty of malls in LA and San Diego to hit up. Obviously, beaches. We have DisneyLand, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, and so forth. I just don’t see how you can go wrong! Also, we have Universal CitiWalk, which is one of the very few places where you can go indoor skydiving. Plus we’re only about a 3 and 1/2 hour drive to Vegas. Sheesh.
Scott
Well said Ricky. I’ve only been in Utah for like 3 years for school but I can’t wait to move back. Great weather, beaches, and so much stuff to do.
Craig
I agree Ricky. SoCal is pretty great. Really the only down sides are everything is expensive, many places you drive through you are under the impression somehow you managed to get yourself into Mexico, and traffic/crowded pretty much everywhere you go. But we got so much to do and i’ve got a decent paying job so it more than makes up for any negative things.
Josh
Volumes I&II are amazing. Volumes III&IV are just more of Thrice’s amazing abilities to produce beautiful and influential music. You just cannot go wrong listening to Thrice. I listen to almost all of their cd’s everyday and nothing else makes me feel so good. The music is perfect and i love how talented they all are.
Moony
ricky dude i mean there is no place to just hang around any form of recreation requires money, and alot of it… maybe its just Irvine

My friends went to NY for new years and someone on the street said to one of them “you from california? I can tell by the way you act and talk, like everythings suppose to come to you by default”
Sadly hes true and us so calers got it good… almost too good haha.

Actually, if you didn’t see it in the “Thank You, Great White North

I’ve made a little video with it, if you wanna see. (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=CK4MVak5vTA) The download link
is there too.

SCIENCE FAILS AGAIN!!

i was talking with someone today who is interviewing a local band, and he had wondered what kind of questions he should be asking…which brings me to a random question…
if you had to ask the members of thrice a question, what would it be?
Katie
i once interviewed riley and before the interview i asked people in a thrice forum what they wanted to know..
..i ended up asking him who would win in a fight between cyclops and wolverine.
i was so young back then.. *shakes head*
johnson
so who did riley say would win?
Logan
I think I remember that interview. Riley said he didn’t know anything about comics or x-men, but he thought Wolverine looked cooler so Wolverine would probably win. haha
Moony
hey guys… the show at uci was awesome. such a sick vibe. and the opener was really good too. first time i ever saw dustin, i thought i was dreaming. I CANT WAIT FOR THAT HEADLINING TOUR!!!
Katie
logan is correct.
haha man, it was really funny because i dont think riley ever saw that question coming.
i bet riley thinks that was the worst interview he’s ever been in. i was so nervous when we first sat down that i asked him how to spell his name (for my notes). hahah
elaine
glad to hear your guys are getting better. rest up!

This is what Dan from PlayRadioPlay! says about Dustin’s writing on AP.net
“Dustin from Thrice uses common literary tools in his music”
Ulises
It was fun to see Dustin play at UCI. Although he had trouble remembering lyrics (particularly his own songs from his solo album) he managed to play it off well with the help of the audience yelling out lyrics for him to remember. He also seemed to have forgotten that he had previously played “The Whaler” acoustic.
ME: “THE WHALER!”
DUSTIN: “I haven’t done that one live”
ME: “YEA YOU HAVE”
DUSTIN: “WHEN?”
ME: “ONLINE ON AOL SESSIONS”
DUSTIN: “OH YEA…”
Hahaha. All in all it was a great night. Great music, great vibe, but most importantly was Jamie’s message to us the students. Props to Josh Moore too, his stuff was great. I’ll see you guys out in San Diego….and Anaheim…and Hollywood.
Joe
If Dan is trying to say that Dustin’s writing is more or less a mediocre style of writing, I’d like to see him writes something better..
travis
just seems like “common jealousy” of dustin’s talent to me
Hugo
well the phrasing is pretty elitist, but I guess the Bible can be considered common =P
Logan
pre-order is available! check thrice’s myspace.
Colbs
Hey, does anyone know when we should be receiving the tickets we ordered for the spring tour?
Katie
if you got them through ducatking, they’re Will Call.
sooooo you wont be getting them in the mail ;-)

Dustin has talent, but it seems to be waning at times. Songs like “Red Sky,” “Of Dust and Nations,” and “The Earth Will Shake” really show off his writing ability. But then songs like “Lost Continent,” just fail lyrically for me–(”Do we really wanna know what’s going down?” Come now…especially for an Atlantis-referencing song, this line could’ve been so much stronger.”)
Dustin has skills definitely, and his writing is much better than 95% of other songwriters out there, but you can’t really make a fair judgment on his writing unless you see whatever other writing (such as poetry) he has. Sometimes he does amazing work, and sometimes he could do just so damn much better. I’d say 75-25.

Common literary tools : he admits he’s a sucker for alliteration, which I personally tend to like (Hold fast Hope). Also his use of allusion seems to always hang around in the songs, of course. Naturally, his writing isn’t cryptic at the level of tool or, as they mentioned, frodus, but I personally prefer the understandable-at-first-glance, but nevertheless-rewarding-in-further-reads quality of his writing. Two things - I’d like to know the context - I couldn’t find the AP.net source. Also, they should try the new literary device of hyphenation-of-every-word-to-form-a-megaword. Just saying
Logan
word to that, Vince. I agree whole-heartedly. especially on the Lost Continent reference. it doesn’t really do it for me… especially right after Open Water, an awesome song lyrically. to be fair, though, that is the only song in recent memory of Thrice with less-than-awesome lyrics, as far as I’m concerned… at least that I can think of right now.
Logan
Jimmy… I think you meant mega-word, not megaword.
Moony
Vince.. that’s my favorite line in lost continent. i love that song.
Tom
Would anyone here have some sweet hookups for sheet music for any Thrice songs on piano? I don’t really have the time to figure it out by myself. :(
holly
I think Dustin does his best and puts his heart into the songs, so I’m not going to smash him.
ps. he is amazing anyway and has anyone listened to that hideous strength? ” ipraythatpower be not in my words.but in truth that supercedes the mind of man..”
Pearce
yeah thrice!!

for all those people who couldn’t make it to Dustin’s UCI show a couple nights ago there is a handful of videos up on youtube of it. just search “dustin kensrue” then order them by date and you will see
if this link works then guess you can just use it instead: http://youtube.com/results?search_query=dustin+kensrue&search_sort=video_date_uploaded

heads up boys!
there’s a preorder!

i’m not doing it though, everyone says the shipping is like $10.
sorry Thrice.
I am off on Tuesdays though, so you can bet I’ll be in line the minute Best Buy opens.
Matt
It’s also on Amazon if you want to avoid the postage costs.
Still not available in the UK though :(
Hugo
Hmm… I was going to keep my thoughts on Lost Continent’s lyrics to myself but it’s out here anyway. It’s my least favorite song off the Index, probably with the next volumes included. The lyrics turn me off, although I love the last third of the song, when Riley brings in the crashes/waves.
I wondered at that time if it was that Water song that they added last, when they only wanted to have 5 songs on the disc.
Nobody dare call me anything less than a Thrice fan forever, because of this. Grr.
SeanLang
About the lyrics anyway, no one’s perfect. Just keep that in mind. He is my favorite though, and definitely very talented.
Vince
Lost Continent has some good lines, but it had so much potential for more, you know? “The water’s rising now/ and we will surely drown/ if we don’t turn around” was a strong ending, don’t get me wrong, but the lyrics until that could’ve been epic.
Also, I too enjoy Dustin’s writing because many times it has double, perhaps even triple meaning. Firebreather for instance could just be a song about being free spiritually from opression, but then you could fit so many other events to it. The Salem Witch Trials? The Self-Immolation of Thich Quang Duc?
It’s not that I think Lost Continent was too simple. I like simple at times. “Moving Mountains” and “Come All You Weary” are simple songs, but I LOVE them because they don’t try to be anything more than what they are. “LC” just didn’t even try to reach for the bar (especially compared with the music.)
Of course I’m not here to bash Thrice or Dustin. They’ll always be my favorite band, and Dustin will always be an inspiration.
Joe Harman
i, for one, love lost continent. i think it might be about africa…esp cuz theyre always supporting charities involved with africa.
Logan
I’m thinking Lost Continent was the last song they made for water… if you go through all the older posts by the band, there’s one where Teppei says something like, “we were originally only going to have five songs on the water disc, but we thought of a new song idea the other day and we’re going to see if it works.” I get the impression that was definitely Lost Continent… Digital Sea, Open Water, and The Whaler all sort of have a similar vibe and they seem like they might have come around the same time. and we know it wasn’t Night Diving because they had mentioned an instrumental before this particular post.
anyways, lots of investigation going on, and the only reason any of us are discussing it this deeply is because we are antsy as heck waiting for III and IV. haha
Vince
Yeah, Logan I agree. The sonnet was there. Night Diving too. Digital Sea as well…the only other one it could be is Open Water, but I think it was LC because the “new idea” and “if it works” kind of signals the atmopshere of Lost Continent.
And Joe, Africa would fit, yeah, but mostly it’s about the entire world. Dustin compares Atlantis to society, and notes how unless we learn to change our ways, the sea’s going to open up and swallow us–or in simpler terms, we’re headed for our own downfall.
Trask
I like Lost Continent because it sounds to me like one of the most simple songs Thrice has written, and I think that’s part of the point. Musically it’s not as complex as most of the other stuff on the Index or Vheissu. That and the slow pace make me think that Lost Continent is more about the message and less about the poetry.
And maybe this is just me, but I hear two references to other Thrice songs in there: “rhetoric was not enough” from The Artist in the Ambulance and “we’d rather close our eyes, sing soothing lullabies” from Lullaby, that unreleased B-side.
kate
I actually really like the simplicity of Lost Continent. The lyrics are approachable in a way that it is bringing an awareness to people of a subject matter that we are all very familiar with. I think the line “rhetoric was not enough” really sets the idea that words don’t mean everything thus the really stripped down and basic lyrics in the song. Sure, there was definite potential for the lyrics to be so much more, but really, I think sometimes words should just tell it like it is and not have to go through extravagent metaphors and literary devices to get there. But that’s just my opinion :)
Moony
i agree with kate.
collin
the beginning of Lost Continent reminds me of Christmas …i love it
Logan
Trask… yeah I picked up on the references to other Thrice songs too. I’m pretty sure it’s intentional; it’s very clever if it is, too. I never realized the one about Lullaby, good call. you actually missed one too, the “hearts and hands” from So Strange. “what our hearts and hands were for.”
Craig
I’m a bit torn… I LOVE the Alchemy Index, but if I “had” to pick a least favorite song for awhile it was Lost Continent. It wasn’t until after I started falling in love with “The Whaler” and started getting more into the lyrics of it I started to love it even more (especially the ending lyrics, as Vince pointed out). Now that i’ve taken more of a liking to it i’d have to say “Digital Sea” is my least favorite (don’t get me wrong, I play the song pretty much every day and love it, it’s just I like the others better).
Also on a side note: Vince, I assume you are the Vince consistantly posting on the Thrice myspace. With that in mind i’d like to thank you. Every so often I see a “bring back old thrice!” post/basher and it pisses me off and i’m prepared to go on and on about how new Thrice is so much more epic (old Thrice material still gives me amazing feelings, but songs like “For Miles” just blow my mind) but then I see your comments and it makes me happy stopping my urge to spend so much attention bashing others. Once again, Thank you!
Jimmy
Logan, touche. You beat me at my own game.
I like the point about firebreather - I’m not convinced it has to be so concretely based. I do think the ambiguous meaning is interesting. There is obviously some fighting going on - bullets lancing lungs and what not, but the thing is what the narrator goes through after that. Is it (1) he dies, the flames literally devour him or (2) a kind of spirit comes alive in him, making him “free” and not bound to “fold his hands” or “hold his tongue” - it is not dying but understanding how to live under his own control.
I’d personally go for the second given the kind of lyrics showing up in other places on the disc quite prominently “kiss the coals and I say here I am send me” / well, the Arsonist.
Matt
Jimmy-
Im convinced that Firebreather is about more of a spiritual battle, because of the line “Tell me are you free, in word or thought of deed” If I’m not mistaken, (which i could be but dont think i am) that’s yet another Biblical reference. he’s asking if we’re free from our “mortal” (for lack of a better term) words, thoughts and deeds, and controlled more by the spiritual ones.
oh, and that line you took was from The Messanger, a song about Isaiah the prophet… again, from the Bible. most of that song is actually quoted from the book of Isaiah.
johnson
off topic,
but in the “who we would like to thank” in alchemy index vol. 1&2. the name Miles is stated. and for some strange reason i think the song “for miles” has something to do with THAT miles.
Scott
Wow. Its Miles Davis. For Miles is about traveling through life and about Christ’s atonement, especially in our personal lives. Hence the name For Miles. Its also in reference to Miles Davis and Fur Elise.
Walter
Does any one know the TOTAL price charged, for the Vols. III and IV pre order? Vagrant says it’s 8.99 but it doesn’t show tax and shipping charges
Muchos Gracianosmentemente.
travis
isn’t Teppei’s son named Miles? i might be wrong, but just throwing it out there
Sebas
First of all, I’m pretty sure that Teppei’s son is named Miles, at least that’s what I read in a posting a couple of months ago here.
Regarding Lost Continent, I think it’s a beautiful song, though not my favorite on the Water Disc (here I’m in between Open Water and The Whaler), but I do really like the lyrics, specially the lines: “we’d rather close our eyes, sing soothing lullabies”.
And in my opinion it’s not about Atlantis, but about us, the people, the world in which we live, and if we don’t do something to change things, we’ll be probably be extinguished either by Global Warming, a World Nuclear War or a Superflu.
By the way, Hugo thanks for the Itunes update, I finally downloaded the zip file, hopefully someday we’ll be able to but the tunes.
Tom(not the one above)
why have the waterispoison boards broken?
Luc
Tom, the website is getting moved to another hosting provider, it should be back up shortly :)
cheers!

Vince
I don’t really think the references to other songs was intentional in Lost Continent. Artist doesn’t tie in too much with Lost Continent (though COULD be, and I suppose “rhetoric” is too uncommon a word to just be used twice without intention”) and def. Lullaby isn’t–two different thought processes there amigos.
Digital Sea used to be my least favorite, but it’s resurfaced because of a particular love of the second verse (as well as the remix.)
For Miles has triple meaning–for Miles Davis, for Miles Teranishi (Teppei’s son), and for Miles (as in the actual Miles, or going the distance). You could then pretty much put any other meaning to it and it’d probably come out alright–that’s the beauty of Thrice’s work. It’s detailed enough to paint pictures but vague enough to let the listener interperet their own meaning.
Firebreather–hands down still the best from Alchemy Index I and II (right up there with The Whaler and The Flame Deluge).
Craig–No problem, I’m always ready to have Thrice’s back. And I hope they don’t mind me pushing for discussion about the good and not-so-good lyrics. I think it’s good that they get feedback on what works for some and doesn’t work. As for those who wants the old Thrice–well, it just isn’t going to happen, thankfully. I enjoy the old Thrice as must as anyone, but the route they’re taking–it’s genius, and I love it.
We’re all here to back up Thrice. What was the old group called? The Thrice Alliance? Oh yeah ;).
Logan
Walter… it’s just under $20 with the standard shipping.
Vince, I tend to disagree that the references to other songs was unintentional. like you said, rhetoric seems like an obvious pointer toward Artist, as it’s an uncommon word and it’s used with the same denotation (as there a few different ways to use the word). also, I think the parallel between Lost Continent and So Strange I Remember You with the “hearts and hands” line is too obvious to be accidental. it doesn’t seem like Dustin to reuse a direct quote like that unless it was on purpose. and I’d also be ready to argue that Lullaby and Lost Continent have very similar lyrical themes (we need love and we need to change our path).
I was also going to try to say what my opinion of the best song on I and II was, but I ended up just listing pretty much every song. I guess if I HAD to choose one, it would be the Messenger… I have a sweet tooth for heavy stuff (although the Flame Deluge I think is heavier than the Messenger, I feel like the Messenger has more energy).
Chris
Everyone of you is wrong about the connection between For Miles and Miles.
Vheissu came out in 05, and Miles wasn’t born until late last year.
…buncha retards in here.
Logan
well, Teppei’s love of Miles Davis probably inspired his son’s naming. so they are connected nevertheless.
travis
no, i know For Miles has nothing to do with Miles… as far as I’m concerned, it just means “for” miles, like for on and on, or forever, etc. you get what im saying haha
Logan
well, that’s definitely one interpretation of it, but here’s what Dustin has to say about the issue, straight from the Vheissu special edition:
“…In the end I thought it moved in a similar way to Beethoven’s ‘Fur Elise,’ but since I had taken the scale from the DVD, I named the file ‘Fur Miles’ which became the working title. And now the final title is ‘For Miles’ both as a reference to a journey, and a tribute to Mr. Davis.”
so, both viewpoints are right. I tend to favor the one about the journey, but they’re both valid.
Matt
i favor the journey one as well… it makes more sense with the lyrics, which are amazing by the way
Ryan
It’s Dustin’s favourite day today, pi day!
travis
cool, thanks Logan
collin
this is alot of fricken comment yeah go Thrice
Joe
time for a new update eh
Vince
Good point on the “So Strange” bit, but still not sold on Lullaby. Lullaby was written as a response to Lennon’s “Imagine,” and makes a point that there’s never going to be a real peace, because it’s unimaginable–there will always be something to disrupt it, but we can work towards it, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Lost Continent, on the other hand, is a cautionary tale–it uses Atlantis as a focus, but really is talking about the current state of humanity (kind of like Plato’s Allegory of the Cave). I guess if you wanted to, you could make a case that the lullaby sung is in fact Lennon’s “Imagine,” but it’d be interesting to know Dustin’s original intentions with the song. I wish the album was released with a little explanation for each one, just as Vheissu had. That’d be pretty sweet.
Trask
My point of view on the Lullaby-Lost Continent connection is that they’re both calls to throw off the lethargy/self-created illusion (…does that make sense?) that’s causing humanity to stagnate. After that, they kind of diverge — Lullaby encourages us to really feel instead of settle for a neverending too-good-to-be-true peace, whereas Lost Continent wants us to take action against the evils and injustices from which we choose to look away — but both of them tell us to cast off our ignorance.
And yes, explanations for the songs would have been nice. But then I wouldn’t be spending time on a Saturday afternoon analyzing Thrice songs!
Logan
well all right, I can agree with you guys on the Lullaby-Lost Continent pheonomenon. And yeah, I remember being really pissed when Vheissu came out that I didn’t get the special edition, so I went to great lengths to buy the special edition after I had already gotten the normal one. Then I promised myself that I wouldn’t let that happen again, on the next album I was going to buy the special edition in the first place. And, of course, as it turns out there is no Alchemy Index Special Edition.
my suspicion is, though, when they release volumes 1-4 as a box set (because you know they will), THAT’s when they’ll release a version with song explantions inside. at least, I’m hoping so.
wasn’t there a special edition of TAITA with song explanations too? I never got my hands on that one. :(
Ben
For the record, $10 shipping for one CD is absolute horseshit. They better be sending something cool along with it.
johnson
it is definitely time for a new update…
sam
thrice in San Diego……….sweet.
Hugo
While people are talking about Lullaby, doesn’t someone less lazy than me want to correct the lyrics all over the place?
I’m pretty darn sure it’s “a soothing and mindless lullaby”.
Matt
hey…
i think somebody mentioned this earlier, but does anybody know what the lyrics are for Night Diving?
before you stone me for heresy, i know it’s an instrumental song, but there are a few lines toward the middle of it that are whispered. i was just curious as to whether or not anybody has figured those lines out yet.
Craig
Sam, you going to San Diego show too? I’ve got tickets to both San Diego shows and towards the end of the tour in Hollywood. Going to be going with my brother and a few friends. I’m so excited! I haven’t seen Thrice since warped tour in 2003 so I made sure to go to 3 shows to make up for the lack of attending shows the past few years. HUGE Thrice fan, but every time they go on tour i’ve got something I NEED to do so this time around I planned in advance that whatever I need to do, Thrice first!
Logan
Matt. I agree, I hear some words but I’ve had no luck distinguishing them. I think Thrice probably did that on purpose, made them relatively un-understandable. Still, someone has got to be able to do it.
Katie
craig, i’m in the same boat as you.
before this past mini-tour with say anything, i hadnt seen them since warped 03 too.
so now i am going to 3 shows on this tour.
ha! how do you like them apples, LIFE!
Adam R
To me, in Night Diving it sounds like they are saying “Tell me….” something something… Because of Firebreather, i almost hear a really distorted “Are you free…” after the “Tell me” part, but it could just be my head playing games with me lol. I am curious for an official lyric post to that song
HAY
i wish April 15th was today.
Jorge
lyrics? in Night Diving? could anyone enlighten me on as to what time those whispered lyrics may be heard?
Logan
approx. 3:26 - 4:01. Listen very, very closely! particularly in the left speaker
Ryan
Are you sure it’s not just guitar distortion… sort of like the end of “Flags of Dawn”?
Matt
Ryan-
I’m almost positive those are voices… you can hear Dustin a little bit.
Logan-
I’m sure it’s like that for a reason as well. It kind of goes along with the water theme… you can’t really understand what someone is saying underwater.
Adam-
interesting idea… i’ll have to listen closer and see what i hear
Matt
lyrics update!
I can pick out the phrases “Do we….” and “Take me to the…”
i have no idea what the rest of the sentences are, but take a listen and tell me what you think
Moony
matt i heard that too, aren’t there any musical programs were u can like take off layers from a song? that would work right?
Gabriel
a review of vols. 3 and 4
http://www.forthesound.com/Album_Reviews/p2001_articleid/1000
Katie
ahhhhh
that review made me SO pumped!
yesterday at work, firebreather came on and some kids were really into it and asked who it was. so i got to tell them all about the alchemy index. it was the best part of my day!
Weihsin
For the Night Diving lyrics…!
Actually I was searching for it on the web and i found that some
people are thinking Dustin’s singing “Take me to the surface”
and “into the algae, will you allow?” or “into the ocean,
were you alone?” or some combination of the two.
(if you want to check out where it’s written : http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858689531)
hope it helps ;)
Parke
seeing as how i have to wait for the actual release of volumes 3 and 4…i suppose i can make do right now with a sick ep. way to go, freakin’ thrice, being sick and making music that’s better than anybody else…way to go.
Chris
Yes, it definitly is voices, but maybe in this case, the voice is meant to be used as an insturment, instead of used for the more conventional approach.
I personally don’t think it says anything specific, but even if it doesn. it’s going to be near impossible to understand exactly what was being said (if anything was being said at all)
Matt
okay… after extensive manipulation of that part of the song, i’ve heard nothing more than i already knew… :(
i tried everything i could to make the vocals more clear (which worked to an extent), but the only discernable words are “take me down..” and “take me to the…”
sorry boys. this may be a guarded secret of Thrice. lol
on a different note, i’m really stoked from that album review too!
Gabriel
Is this a discussion about Night Diving lyrics? Definitely we need a leak…
Logan
leaks are the devil! I say none of us listen to it if it leaks. well, to each his own I guess, but I’m not going to.
in fact:
I hereby pledge before God, the Angels in Heaven, and my fellow Thrice fans here that I will not listen to any new material (leaks, even releases by Thrice) until I have the album in my hands on April 15th.
Jordan
I can wait. I want the whole album to blow me away at once…
Trask
I think I’m also going to take the Logan pledge, sans Come All You Weary, because it’s too late for that.
The vocals in Night Diving are probably meant to be part of the instrumental-ness, just adding a different tone to the arrangement. I might take a stab at interpreting lyrics myself sometime, though.
Matt
i’ll take the Logan pledge with the Trask amendment.
:)
Eric
Update?
I’m mean seriously, we’ve been talking about the night diving lyrics for two days.
Oh well, at least it’s not fan fiction again. Which I thought was entertaining.
Tyler
Are both of the anaheim shows sold out? i really cant tell.
Ben
I’m gonna find a leak and blast it outside your houses so you all go to hell.
Logan
hahaha.
nice Ben.
Katie
just looked over the track names for Air..
anyone else think Dustin is totally into the story of Icarus?
Jimmy
Well, yeah. And understandably so. Let’s see where it shows up: melting point, Daedalus, a little in stare at the sun (I can’t help noticing “I will touch the sun or I will die trying”). I mean, it’s a pretty interesting statement on human nature. I’d like to see the lyrics for Daedalus, because it seems to me it might be a change of pace for Dustin, in that he used to focus on Icarus and the desire/reach of mankind, but now is on the father/voice of reason/understanding of one’s limits (common theme in Alchemy? See sonnets…). We’ll see.
Jimmy
…and that reads very poorly. Kind of uppity. Didn’t intend that in the least. Good point Katie.
Moony
o my dear god… are the tickets sold out for the may 27th show!? help!
Scott
Jimmy- I have always loved the lyrics for Stare at the Sun and have often thought if “sun” should be interpreted as “Son” as in Christ. If you just insert that “o” in for the “u” the lyrics come to a whole new meaning. Probably some of my favorite lyrics off any album.
Eric
Dustin once talked about doing an ep over the story of Icarus. So it doesn’t surprise me that he has more stuff up his sleeve.
Scott
By the way, what is Daedalus? I’ve never heard of that song before.
Scott
Actually, im an idiot. Nevermind.
Katie
i’d be so stoked for an icarus ep.
seriously one of the most inspiring of the Greek myths.
probably won’t happen now, though, huh?
i’d also be pretty into the idea of thrice doing nothing but concept albums from here on.. i’m a concept album freak and i think thrice pulls it off very nicely.
Matt
moony-
i think they are dude. that has just ruined my day. :(
We need more tickets, Thrice!
Matt
bitter conformation…
i called HOB Anaheim. they’re completely sold out for both dates.
Sean
I’m glad I got tickets to both dates…Woot!
Logan
Kate - I know what you mean, and it would be cool, but I’d kind of like to hear what a “normal” Thrice album would sound like after The Alchemy Index. What kind of music would it be? What direction would they decide to go? You know? Maybe they can do a concept album every-other album. :)
Parke
i think thrice’s next album, not being a concept that is, will sound like space elephants sheering scorpions into a cataract of swooping mousetraps colliding with a meteor sent from Deep Space 9…AKA if chuck norris wrote a song…without the whole armageddon thing attached with it
holly
Oh look. poop. thrice rules. they will go down in history on wings of love doves
Jason
IMO Lost Continent is my favorite track on the Water disc, the lyrics are not very complex, but I can sense the emotion they put in that song which makes up for it, Great song.
Jp
please update.
Katie
parke, i shrieked in pure glee. the idea of chuck norris writing a song is almost too much to handle.
Logan
hey Katie, how’d you do italics? do HTML tags work in these comments?
testtesttest
Logan
oh, nice, they do. haha and Katie, sorry for calling you Kate earlier. I don’t know if that bugs you or whatever. I could have sworn it was Kate when I wrote that.
kate
haha. I’M KATE!
Logan
haha, yes, you are, but the human I was originally speaking to is in fact named Katie. unless you’re the same human and go by different names.
Katie
since we’re all going off on tangents while waiting for an update…
logan, i really want to start going by kate (more mature & whatnot) but its hard to shake a nickname you’ve had your whole life. anyway, just to keep clarity on here, katie it is ;-)
anyone going to the nashville show?
that’s the first of three for me!
holly
Best movie scenes ever? what are they?
uncle buck when john candy is chewin’ out that principle lady with the huge wart on her face.
yeah, that was pretty sweet.
how about……..? your turn!
Jamie
In American Beauty when the guy is filming the bag floating around.
or in Crouching Tiger, Hidden dragon when Jen jumps off the Wudan mountain.
Weihsin
I just listen to the Digital Sea remix.
I was expecting something more epic..
some parts of it.. are a little bit ackward to my ears.
Especially when the tempo accelerates..I was confused.
but I still love Thrice, they’re so amazing
Kyle
I got tickets to the may 24th show
=)
smart enough to get em the day the went on sale lol.
carlos
best movie scene ever is the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan
Moony
ok ok ok i got one. if u had to storm the white house with 10 movie characters, who would they be?
Matt
God (he was in both “Almighty” movies. lol)
Indiana Jones (duh)
Yoda (duh)
Mark Wahlberg’s character in Shooter (BAMF!)
Sue Storm (the invisible woman from Fantastic Four)
The Incredible Hulk (duh)
Superman (gotta love invincibility and super speed)
Batman (from Batman Begins… he’s crazy)
Darth Vader (so then you have light and dark force)
Aslan (how do you not take a lion with you?)
Kyle
Forest Gump
Jenna Jameson
all i need.
Chris
Michael Sullivan from Road to Perdition (because he’s badass)
and
Guy Patterson from That Thing You Do! (because he’s Sparatcus)
Matt
chris-
hahahahahaha he is Spartacus.
i’m glad somebody else in this universe has seen that movie.
Sean
I would take the 2 black guys from Crash, seeing as they know how to handle strange situations in a comical fashion.
Oh and Mary-Jane Watson too, as if I get bored of hanging round 2 dudes I could… well yeah I won’t explain my virtues on something as holy as a Thrice blog!
Parke
katie, i’m totally going to the rockettown in nashville show. and yes…the thought of chuck norris writing music is overwhelmingly….ahhhh…see? words can’t even find their way to my mouth!!
Logan
WE ARE SO BORED
Logan
haha and it’s cool because I don’t think normal people would get bored in situations like this.
Logan
in the actual post by Riley, up there, there is a typo. In the second to last sentence, he says “That’s al for now.” It should be “all.”
kate
haha thanks for that logan…very observant indeed. we really are bored.
if there is one band, other than thrice, that i should definitely listen to, who would it be?
Eric
That band is Isis.
End of discussion.
Logan
thanks for ending the discussion. now we have nothing to talk about.
;)
Scott
I would say Radiohead, but I would hope that you already listen to them. If you do, then I would say Minus the Bear. If you already listen to them, I would then say The Appleseed Cast or Broken Social Scene.
Parke
wait…so if the discussion on nothing has ended, and nothing has anything underneath that….what are we?
Parke
thrice…save us from boredom!!
Katie
Logan, i noticed that too, but i envisioned a dude named Al. like, i have him all made up in my head.. everything from his hair color to his favorite pair of shoes (a gray pair of New Balances).
WE’RE GOING BATTY FROM LACK OF UPDATENESS!
umm, freakin’ GENGHIS TRON is a band everyone needs to get into. they are intense like camping.
Eric
What have I wrought upon us?
If this is pergatory of non-updates continues, I’m gonna cry……..or go to WIP, whatever.
Eric
299.
Eric
oops.
This one is 299.
Eric
AND number 300!!!
Katie
eric, you need an intervention.
Eric
I know.
Hello
My name’s Eric Stephens, and I’m a Thrice addict.
Mordecai
Protest the Hero is an amazing band that will melt your face and bend your mind without asking permission. Check them out.
Logan
this is really separating the true Thrice addicts from the posers. I think it’s just me, Katie, and Eric clicking refresh every few minutes on this page to see if Thrice posted anything.
;)
Logan
hey Eric… my last name is Smith. now we know each other’s last names.
Eric
Kickass.
Mordecai
ha ha, why would anybody pose to be addicted to anything? Who wants to be enslaved by addictions? Not I. We’re all just waiting for our favorite band to share some wisdom about their new album or their lives. I don’t think its fair to call all of us posers who don’t have the luxury of waiting for the guys of Thrice.
Let’s play nice, shall we? =)
Eric
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CLIP OF AS THE CROW FLIES AT INTERPUNK.COM!!!!!!!
http://interpunk.com/item.cfm?Item=156501&
Addiction has its rewards my friend.
Mordecai
ha ha
Logan
Mordecai, my sincere apologies. I didn’t mean to make any untrue assumptions. :P
I’d listen to the clip, but I can’t, because I’ve taken the Loganic pledge (see above posts from a few days ago).
Mordecai
its cool. I realize that I check this site at least once a day…. also this is my third post in half an hour. Maybe I should check out the beam in my own eye before I rag on you for the mote in yours, eh? =) And I totally respect the Loganic Pledge (sicky name, too) but I’m weak and checked out the clip. I’m digging it.
Eric
It’s so beautiful huh dude?
I can honesly say that was the most moving 45 seconds of music I’ve ever heard.
I kid thee not.
Mordecai
oh, it’s gorgeous, bro. I wish I had Dustin’s voice.
I was almost more excited for the Air disc, however, solely based on the small clip of the sonnet for it that was the first video they put out. But now, I’m just as excited for Earth.
John A
Very much agree…listening to that and some of the short but sweet clips from the main website is getting really impatient for air and earth :)
Moony
dude… that clip of air is amazing
Sebas
Thank God I’m not the only one who checks this site more than 4 o 5 times a day for news, updates or at least fun postings.
I refuse to listen to any clip until the record comes out!!!
And I’d definetly would take Traschan from “The Stand” to the White House if that conversation is not finished yet.
Katie
for me it’s almost one of those ‘which came first, the chicken or the egg?’ things
i am a thrice addict and i have no life.
but do i have no life because i’m a thrice addict?
or am i a thrice addict because i have no life?
tough call.
until i get the answer, though…
*refreshes*
Logan
in the meantime, I’m learning some Thrice songs on bass. because I’m bitter about not getting to listen to the songs, and because Edward comes up with some pretty neat licks.
Moony
hey u guys u shood revisit older thrice albums in the mean time… like even tho identity crisis was a pretty elementary album its so hard. u gotta love it
Eric
I gotta say Under Par is quite the song to jam out to.
Moony
dude the intro for that song is dope
Vince
The clip is…hmm…idk.
It didn’t move me as much as I was hoping for.
I’m holding out for the rest of the song/
Daedalus/
Broken Lungs.
*fingers crossed*
Moony
o… by that song i meant under par. i loved the clip
Matt
Nice clip. Gotta say, I’m looking forward to hearing Broken Lungs (and Daedalus, as the title has always intrigued me) more, but yeah, that sounds pretty damn good.
Jamie
This song is so beautiful…
its very different, its quite moving.
Im intrigued i want the full version now!
johnson
17 days….
no update?
Katie
they must think they’re entirely off “thrice duty” for the month…
pshhh! whatever!
Ricky Denim
I can’t find the clip?? Little help please!
Jamie
they have removed it, because Thrice requested it to be.
Its beautiful for those who didn’t hear it, utter beauty :-)
Matt
*cough*
