Update From the Road
April 29th, 2008

Sorry for the lack of posts from the road…My goal for this tour is “productivity” which leaves me less time to wander on the interwebs (at least in theory). I’ve been totally encompassed in building some fx pedals. I’ve built two so far and I’m kinda bummed I’m done with them because that’s what I was basing my productivity on. We’re talking about going through some Rosetta Stone programs and trying to learn some languages, complete with group homework assignments. Ha. We’ll see how that goes…if it goes at all. I may have to just build some more pedals, or maybe an amp! Booyah.

Anyhow, the shows have been going fairly good. Some great, some ok. It’s taken a lot longer than usual to settle into the set since we’re completely changing it every night, but I feel like we’re just starting to get the hang of it. Keeps us on our toes I suppose. Thanks to everyone coming out to the shows. I feel like the vibe has been really cool. A bit more intimate maybe with the air/earth stuff. We’re having fun, and I suppose that’s what really counts. Doesn’t hurt that Circa and Pelican are great dudes/bands. We’ll make an effort to check in more often, but if you don’t hear back from me, that means I’m being oh so productive and you should be happy for me. Oh, and the highlight of the tour for me so far was probably visiting the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis. The place is EXACTLY the way it was when it was first build. Same linoleum floor tiles, same acoustic tiles on the walls, unreal. If you don’t know, Sun studio is where people like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Howlin’ Wolf, Johnny Cash, etc. got their start. Crazy. It’s late. I need to sleep.

Teppei

haven’t done this in a while, but here’s some stuff I can think of off the top of my head that I’ve been digging:
The Band - The Last Waltz Soundtrack
The Kinks - Part One Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround
The Beatles - Revolver and anything after
Harry Nilsson - Pussycats
Devendra Banhart - Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
Dr. Dog - anything they do
Spoon - GaGaGaGaGa
Richard Swift - Walking Without Effort
De La Soul

I was listening to music while I browsed pedal circuits online and realized I have some friends that are in great bands that not many people know about…so:
Aushua (who are joining the west coast leg of the tour)
We Barbarians
Yellow Red Sparks
The Valley Arena

And finally, stuff I just bought off iTunes:
Dr. Dog - Passed Away Vol 1
The Black Keys - Attack and Release
Trojan Records Compilation

Goodnight.

    First comment again. Woop Woop!

  2. Bronsen

yoooo! just letting you know the vegas show was AMAZING! oh yes firsties!

  3. Bronsen

    …or not quite haha

  4. Scott

PS Look at those beautifull Mac’s. Makes me very proud to be a Mac owner.

  5. Brian

I’m in one of those cluttered hotel rooms right now. 2 beds, 5 dudes, 5 macs. It’s fun math. Hopefully your budget allows for something better than Motel 6. I hate buying their $2.99 internet cards. Luckily most are near other hotels, so I can mooch of their internet. Travel safe. Lots of crazy weather out there lately. I’m still bummed I’m missing you guys on this run.

  6. Joe

    = not an apple fan.

  7. Scott

If you are cool, in a band, in a movie, or a combination of the three, then you own a mac.

  8. kristen

i wasn’t able to be at the show in atlanta on saturday. i had bought tickets and all. i’m still not over it. i’ll see you guys in buffalo, NY in a couple of weeks, at least.

  9. Neil

s’up Teppei. I heard that you made pedals, but I wasn’t sure if it was true. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle! Sorry, got carried away. I’m glad you’re enjoying the tour just now, but I hope that you and the guys will find your way over to the UK (Glasgow in particular). I suppose I have a hope that if I keep insisting you come to Glasgow you will eventually :D

  10. Mick

man i would kill too see you guys on this tour. but i took you and say anything. i caught you guys last time you came to edmonton with circa survive. great guys great music. and that one band aushua is super good too. thanks for that teppei

  11. Mick

p.s. kudos on the beard’s by the way… your a pillar of inspiration not only in music but in facial hair endurance. haha

  12. Albert

    -Kristen

Atl show was off the chain! straight dope!

  13. Vince

Saturday fellas…Saturday will be my first concert seeing you guys.
And I’m stoked in ways you just can’t know…

  14. Jorge

Here’s the Orlando set list (in alphabetical order), sorry it took so long to post it up:

    All That’s Left
    Artist in the Ambulance
    Broken Lungs
    Burn The Fleet
    Come All You Weary
    Daedalus
    Deadbolt
    Digital Sea
Don’t Tell and We Won’t Ask
    For Miles
    Hold Fast Hope
    Moving Mountains
    Of Dust and Nations
    Red Sky
    Stand and Feel Your Worth
    Stare At the Sun
    The Earth Isn’t Humming
    The Messenger
    The Whaler

    Encore:
    Child of Dust
    The Earth Will Shake

I’m iffy on remembering if they actually played broken lungs live or was it stand and feel your worth? There was so much Thrice goodness that day that I might have added a song, but I’m pretty sure everyone of those songs was played at least once that day, either on their acoustic set before the show or at the show, anyways, awesome show guys, hope the rest of your tour is rockin’ and here’s to hoping you headline the fall tour as well!

  15. Trask

I like Macs. I think they’re easier for me to use, but that might just be because I’ve never actually owned a PC, haha.

Also, I’m counting the days until May 7. I’ve never seen Thrice live before and I don’t own anything by Circa or Pelican yet (…I’m lazy) so it should be pretty exciting.

Okay, question for everyone: what would your ideal tour be? I’d want As Cities Burn and Thrice to co-headline while 36 Crazyfists and Funeral for a Friend open. And then at the end of the show, Chuck Ragan, who will be in town on the Hot Water Music reunion tour (which my sister saw, I’m extremely jealous), will miraculously appear at the end of the show and sing during Child of Dust, which will be the last song of the encore.

I personally think that is completely plausible.

  16. Mason

Trask, I definitely dig that idea. But maybe without the 36 Crazyfists.

Also, I am a Mac user as well. How many Mac users are there that post here?

And who’s the dude in the front with the glasses? Not a Breckenbro, is he? I can’t tell from the side.

  17. Tom

web designers hate mac users. you guys make testing so hard.

  18. Katie

i think the dude in the glasses is chris jones. their techie-extraordinaire and also teps’ black unicorn counterpart.

    i am a mac fiend.
i have a leopard-print apple logo tattooed on my arm. haha
    i’m a design freak.

  19. Sebas

Another Mac user over here, though I’m thinking of changing my Macbook Superdrive to a Macbook Pro. I’m in a band and basically that’s what I use it for, any suggestion?

  20. Chris

I wanted to (and still do) get an iMac really bad, but my car kept breaking down so I could never save up the money.

But I got a pretty nice laptop from work for free so that’s pretty cool I guess.

Nice hotel guys, and nice beards. I meant to trim mine, but I trimmed it too short so now my beard looks like a 5:00 shadow. Ah, oh well.

I see that you are graced with the presence of Chris Jones again. Is he still rocking out on the tambourine on The Messenger? That was so awesome.

Ok, well I have to get back to work.
    Later everyone!

  21. Sean

    Just a side note…mac’s are sin bitten apples…lol (j/k)

TEP IF YOUR READING THIS check out these sites…I am a gear head myself and they are great resources for your pedal building skillz…enjoy

    thegearpage.net
    harmony-central.com
buildyourownclone.com (the pedals come pre-packaged you just need to assy them yourselve…good practice for the soldering)

Just cruise the fourms on diy stuff amps, pedals, etc…

    See you at disney

  22. Logan

    I’m a PC guy… sorry everyone. but… I’m totally cool and in a band!! what the? 1 + 1 = ????#!$%#$@%

ideal tour - Thrice headlining, and Muse, Unearth, Sevendust (from 4 or so years ago), and Switchfoot. you might say why Switchfoot, and I would agree with you except I actually saw them a couple years ago and they put on a really excellent show. obviously the Sevendust requirement makes this tour impossible, which sucks. but besides, in real life Thrice would probably be opening for Muse, not the other way around.

  23. Megan

ATL show last Saturday was AMAZING! And thanks again to Dustin for letting me drag him out of the bus just to sign my setlist (which is posted on myspace.com/meggerhun in my New album). I’m just glad I caught him before the rain came pouring down! Even wore my Alliance shirt and everything! Hahaha! I miss the Alliance, any chance of something similar happening soon?

  24. Katie

ok MY ideal thrice tour = thrice, ptw & dillinger ..but we all know that already ;-)

but an ideal thrice tour that would make more sense nowadays = thrice, dredg, beirut

oh man, i’d be in complete bliss with that show.

  25. Albert

    -Megan

Were you the chick that asked me if Thrice was in the van??
oh, and i said only Dustin was in there?

  26. Jessica

Can’t wait for the Seattle/Portland shows, driving down from Canada yet again.

Side note, Air & Earth was the 2nd highest debut in the week it came out, coming in at No.17 on the Billboard charts. Nice work fans!

  27. Chris

    Katie!!!

I was just about to say Dredg, I got the idea when I put my iTunes on shuffle and The Whaler came on and Bug Eyes was next.

So my ideal tour would be:

    Thrice headlining
    Dredg
    Ambulette

  28. eyn

    Just a side question…
So does anyone actually know what Pelican’s setlist is?

  29. matt

    boys!
great to hear from you guys again. glad to hear the tour is going well!

ps - you should pick me for the “Haul Our Crap Around For A Day” contest (thats what i’m calling it). i can tech things.. im a drummer :)

  30. Chris

Oh man, it still cracks me up that Riley was like…

“We are going to play Deadbolt 20 times. That’s it. That’s the setlist.”

I’m way stoked that they are playing All That’s Left. A rare song to play live indeed. It only seems that they played it to promote TAITA on Craig Kilborne and Jimmy Kimmel. It’s a really good song, actually.

  31. kate

This is really hard but for my ideal headlining tour:
    Thrice
    Isis
    Saves the Day
    and I agree with Katie…DEP!!!

and actually, just out of curiosity….KATIE! WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THRICE SONG??

  32. luke

    im a mac user.

im studying music and music tech at university and macs are by far the best.

i traided in a high spec laptop just to get a mac book pro. will never go back to PC.

proper cant wait for thrice at reading.
please play afew shows around that time.

  33. Scott

Im sorry, but if anyone here listens to switchfoot, they should be punched in the vag. Switchfoot? Are you freakin kidding me? Do you also listen to Lifehouse and Stone Sour? Sevendust is horrible too. It blows my mind that people can enjoy the greatness of bands like thrice and muse and then follow it up with one of those craptacular bands. Anyone agree?

  34. kate

    Scott-

nope. I personally don’t like those bands either but if anybody is a fan, good for you. Please don’t bring the same narrow-mindedness seen on the band’s myspace page into this site. thanks!

  35. Megan

    Albert -

Not sure? I was asking a lot of the backstage peoples if they were coming out or not but I only asked one person about them being out in the bus and I didn’t get his name. I should have : / He told me where they were so I got there before the other peoples. I think they just followed me, i dunno. But I have long blonde hair? Does that help? Haha, i really don’t know. I’m sorry! I was just in so much bliss that night. I swear every time I see them is better than the last. I think it’s been 4 times now and 3 out of those 4 times I’ve gotten to meet them. Lovelovelove. And I was SO uber ECSTATIC when they started in on Sillhouette cause it’s my ALL TIME FAVE song and other lists didn’t have it on them. So I told Dustin thank you for specifically playing that song and he signed my list right next to it :D Says Love Dustin! Did I mention I’m still ona Thrice high? Hahaha

  36. Vince

    I like Lifehouse.
    Thanks.

  37. Craig

I would love to see Thrice co-headline a tour with Silverstein and have Funeral for Friend and From Autumn to Ashes open.

  38. Jimmy

    I like Circa Survive.
They are ballin, but I’m glad Thrice is headlining. Thrice has more kickass songs.

But I really like Circa too. This tour makes me so happy

  39. chaseT

    goodnight!

man, teppei you are crazy! (in a good way) i cant believe you are making working pedals. make an amp, and you will have blown my mind many times over

the dallas show was so great!!

  40. Mason

Not a huge Switchfoot fan, but Jon Foreman does some solo stuff I like.

    Anyway, yeah, overt musical snobbery=lame.

I’m glad to see so many Mac users ’round these parts.

    Ideal Thrice tour:
    Thrice and Saosin coheadlining.
    Sparta
    and TREOS (just pretend)

  41. Albert

    -Megan

yep! your the one w/ the black Thrice Alliance shirt! ha kinda funny that I ended up talking to you here. I had a Hurley shirt on that was completely drenched w/ sweat…damn heaven got hot as hell…lol

  42. SeanLang

I agree with Scott but in a less mean way. hahahaha.

I know We Barbarians and Ausha well, but dammit, the other two bands were similar in sound, by which i mean indie type stuff. They’re good but i was hoping Yellow Red Sparks or The Valley Arena were going to be br00tle. Hahah, oh well.

  43. Ryan

My ideal thrice tour would be

    thrice(headlining)
    dredg
explosions in the sky (even though they are taking a break)

  44. Megan

    Albert -

Were you in front of the stage or at the side?

  45. Megan

BTW - I know Thrice has already toured with Thursday but the date I was supposed to see them got cancelled so they could go tape something for MTV so it would be simply amazing if I could see them play together again. Also Brand New would be good stage mates, I think. I agree with Dredg also

  46. princexero

    ideal Thrice tour (in Europe)
    Thrice & Dredg (coheadliner)
    Crime In Stereo
Moving Mountains (”Pneuma” is fuckin’ amazing!!)

  47. Robyn

Bands I’d want to see tour with Thrice… Vedera, Idiot Pilot, Old Canes, Norma Jean (I know some of these bands have toured with Thrice before, but I’ve never seen them together at the same show)… I think Dustin and Chuck Ragan should do some shows in the Midwest along with Sundowner!

  48. Ben

I have a Macbook Air, but I have to say I always feel hindered by it. It’s nice for taking notes in class (or, a bit more accurately, dicking around online in class), but I would never even consider switching to a Mac as my main machine. My PC kicks ass.

  49. SeanLang

Macs and PCs are the same, you can run whatever operating system you want on them. Personally i’d get a mac because they have resale value and you can then resell them for a decent price and they typically come with decent processors etc. so they’ll last for a while. Plus there are hardly any viruses for OS. To me though, they’re one in the same…a computer.

  50. Andrew

Thrice/Underoath tour would be super sweet…but that has already happened if I recall correctly.

  51. Albert

    -Megan

I was outside w/ a friend of mine and you were outside next to the tour bus

  52. Chris

I think Teppei was writing this post when that picture was taken.

  53. Chris

So I just heard Fall Out Boy’s cover of Beat It.
It’s not bad actually, I kind of dig it.

    Which brings up the question…

Which would be the best Micheal Jackson song for Thrice to cover?
I probably would have to say Beat It…

  54. Joe

switchfoot had one of the best shows ive ever seen here in SD as i recall.
    them and mutemath.

    and thrice.
    (0.o)
    (o.0)
    (0.o)
    (o.0)

    oh joy

  55. rivers

    vinylupdatesvinylupdatesvinylupdates

  56. Josh

Yo! These values are killing me! How about a white font color? Saw you guys in Austin and boy was it great. Can’t wait for your Conan performance. Anyway, hope you all are having a great tour. - Josh :0)

  57. Logan

    Scott -

Wow, thanks dude! I appreciate the name-calling and the assumption that I even have a vagina. Music is art and people have different tastes in art, period. Being a Thrice fan, I’d have thought you’d understand that. The point is, don’t make personal attacks at people based on the kind of music they like. It is NOT cool at all.

  58. Jimmy

    THRICE!!!!
Ok I know this probably won’t happen, but I think it would be really cool if you could do the following on May 6 in Baltimore, it would be ridiculous:

    1) Transpose Lion and the Wolf to Cm… I feel like Dustin can sing that.
    2) Open the set with Lion and the Wolf
    3) Take that straight into Cold Cash and Colder Hearts

(Alternatively, play Cold Cash on the baritones?)

Either that or play like Melting Point into Daedalus or vice versa. Both transitions sound good.

  59. Ricky Denim

Hey guys, wondering if someone can help me. I’ve been doing home recording on PC for a while, using Cakewalk Sonar for tracking, and i’m really wanting to get some electonic drums happening. Similiar to stuff on the Water disc and Treos.
I have NO idea what programs are out there etc to do this. If anyone knows about stuff like this id really appreciate a kick in the right direction. Cheers :)

  60. white

finally another update…seems like it’s forever in between…I know I know, your all very busy. Thanks though, much appreciated.

This new background makes the text very hard to read. Ya I get that it’s going with the Earth/Air theme, but I hate it.

    Oh and I hate Mac’s!

  61. matt

yeah im not diggin the new background too much either… i think the white on black was easier to read

  62. Jorge

Dang scott, chill with the criticism of musical taste there would you? Not cool man, not cool.

I like macs, but not so much the OS since you can’t play any games on it, and I’m mostly a gamer. Listening Thrice while owning on COD4 is awesome.

  63. Andrew

    @ Chris
Check out Pierce The Veil’s cover of Beat It, IMO it’s much better than fall out boy’s cover.

I would want Thrice to cover Bad or Smooth Criminal. They impressed me with the way they reworked Eleanor Rigby, so I’m sure they could cook up some good stuff for a Michael Jackson cover if they really wanted to.

As a side note, all the current macs have an application called Boot Camp that allows you to partition the hard drive and install a Windows operating system on one half. It’s easy to do, and it’s very seamless/problem free.

  64. kristen

thrice plus muse would be an AMAZING show, whoever up there said that. :D

  65. Jimmy

    @Ricky

I personally use Reason - it’s pretty much a badass program but it might be overkill (well, certainly would be) if all you’re looking for is drums. It’s also pretty darn expensive - I got it as a gift, so I don’t know how much. That being said, it’s really good not only for drums but any bass or synth. I’m not too sold on distorted guitar sounds yet, but hell you can record those. I generally do bass and drums on reason and import that into Cakewalk Guitar Tracks and then record guitar or something. Yeah

  66. Logan

Ricky, I’d highly recommend Reason as well. it can do pretty much anything, from the electronic tones found on the Water disc, to your standard “real” instruments. in terms of real instruments, it has some killer piano, orchestra (including strings and horns alike), drum, and bass sounds. like Jimmy said, the only sounds that aren’t to good are the electric guitars, and in my opinion the acousics too. anyways, I think Thrice themselves used Reason for a lot of the electronic stuff on TAI.

  67. adam?

thrice should cover “black or white”. DUH.

  68. JP

    @Trask,

how do you feel about funeral for a friend nowadays?

I own Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation but I hated their new cd and haven’t listened to them since.

    P.S. THRICE..

along with Jimmy, Lion and the wolf in Cm for the May 6th show in Baltimore would be amazing.

But a long with that, could you please play Trust, All That’s Left, Stand and Feel Your Worth, Hold Fast Hope, and Flags of Dawn?

    Thanksssss.

  69. JS

Thrice and TREOS overlap each other this sunday…i’m gonna have to pull a double duty somehow
    :-/

  70. Katie

    dang kate!
    putting me on the spot!
    haha
it’s really hard to choose my all-time favorite thrice song…
iTunes says i’ve listened to “the sky is falling” the most, but i still wouldn’t go as far as to crown it FAVORITE..

it might be “the earth will shake”.. especially after seeing it live a few times.. it really is on-the-verge-of-tears for me.

    how about you?
and i am so pumped you’re into DEP, too! ire works is freaking sooooo gnarly!!! i couldnt believe how amazing it turned out.

  71. Logan

it’s cool that girls are into DEP. I still haven’t gotten my hands on Ire Works, annoyingly enough… Miss Machine is a masterpiece, though.

  72. JM

im glad to see that ire works isnt getting shit on like in other sites. its not as in your face heavy as CI but damn its great.

btw.. am i the only one who really likes what ben has done with digital sea? i think i may like it better than the original.

  73. Katie

i loved the remix.. i was the one demanding a thrice/DEP mash-ups album haha

i really, really want to see thrice & dilly together :-(

  74. kate

    Katie-

I would have to say Earth Will Shake is one of my favorites too…but yeah, very hard to choose. My itunes says Atlantic is the most played…I actually think that might possibly be the favorite. So pretty :)

Ire Works is superrrrrr goodddddddd. Logan, you need to get a hold of it!! haha. It’s different, but definitely a good thing. Theres not a song that I don’t like on that cd.

    and JM-

I, like some of you out there, like the first half of the digital sea remix. It sounds like some of the songs on Ire Works, but the end of it is just too rushed for me. It almost feels like its unfinished? but that’s just my opinion :)

  75. kate

    oh and Logan-

Miss Machines IS a masterpiece. Woot!

  76. Logan

I also own Calculating Infinity and I’ve listened to it a lot but I do’nt like it as much as Machine. my favorite song off Machine is probably Baby’s First Coffin.

I guess I’d better get off my butt and go get Ire Works. I have a best buy gift card… hopefully they have it there.

  77. Tyler

WOW that OLANDO SETLIST is amazing!! Thanks JORGE !!!

    i hope they play
    Of dust and nations
    All thats left
    Artist in the ambulance

@ the Avalon on the 30th

    HINT HINT GOUGH HINT

  78. Melissa H.

i think i have caught on.. every time the most recent update reaches around 300 comments, they return.. ha. but i do love the new layout. it reminds me of a potato sack.. there’s so much DEP discussion going on.. all i know is i saw them once with Coheed, Chiodos, and 3 and they were the only band to not hand out water (it was ridiculously hot.. ) that doesn’t change my opinion of them musically.. but never again in the summer.. ha.
and yay for Teppei listening to the Black Keys.. proud to call them my fellow Akronites.
oh, and 2 weeks until i get to see Thrice :) it’s taking forever.

  79. Ben

Woooooooooo you’re playing Reading Festival. That makes me very happy!

  80. Jess

nice one. i liked it. love

  81. Sam

seriously stoked your going to come to reading festival, its awesome that you want to come back cause you canceled last time which was a total bummer. you should do some more shows around the U.K. before so i could see you a few times because its been waaaaay too long.

i think it would be awesome to see city and colour (dallas green) and dustin do there solo stuff to start, then alexisonfire play and thrice headline

  82. Jorge

    eyn:

At the Orlando show, Pelican only played like, 5 songs or so, out of which I only recognized City of Echoes, Dead Between the Walls, and Bliss in Concrete. They were awesome although I felt a tad out of place being the only guy moving to the music whereas no one else even knew who these guys were. But I’m glad they played City of Echoes, love that song, just wish they’d have played Far From Fields, but other than that, they’re a great live act.

  83. eyn

Sweet thanks. Ya i agree, they do put on a good show. I was able to
see them at the RTOC tour. I’m super excited to see them opening for
    Thrice again.

  84. Joe

me thinks awkward page background compared to the banner.

  85. luke

even though thrice canceled their reading slot last year, i was only half gutted.

only because they would have clashed with Brand New on the NME stage and it would have been pretty gutting missing one of my favourite bands.

thrice would have won hands down tho.

thankfully you dont clash with anyone this year, yay =)

its the alkaline trio/Bloc party clash thats going to be annoying this year

  86. luke

also….this background and the faint writing is making my eyes hurt

  87. Ricky Denim

@Logan and Jimmy, Thanks guys! Sounds like exactly what i’m after so i’ll look into. Quick question though, is it like a synth rack setup that you add loops into a multi-tracker ala cakewalk, or is it self contained program that records tracks itself?

  88. Mike

As much as I love both Thrice and DEP (and would love to see them both live again), I wouldn’t want them to play together. There’s a totally different feel to a DEP show as opposed to a Thrice show… and I don’t think it’d be as good together.

  89. Mike

Oh yeah, and I dig the new design!

  90. Trask

@JP: I got Hours and thought it would be worth it to get some other FfaF albums, so I picked up Casually Dressed, which I ended up liking better than Hours. I got Tales Don’t Tell Themselves for my birthday and it went along with my changing tastes in music, so I liked it a lot. My favorites order goes Tales Don’t Tell Themselves, then Casually Dressed, then Hours.

I like the new layout too. :)

  91. Dwayne Charrington

    Hey guys,

I always come onto Alchemy Index to check for a good ol’ update and I’ve been meaning to comment on this post but haven’t had the time whatsoever to do so.

Come to Australia sometime soon guys, I saw you in 2007 at Soundwave Festival in Brisbane it was an amazing show and Dustin looked really exhausted on that day as well yet the show was amazing.

If anyone is interested I have created a website for Thrice fans called Thrice Scene and you can access it via http://www.thricescene.com. Waterispoison.com forums are down so come on over and talk to some real Thrice fans if you like in the forums. When the site is finished you will be able to create your own profile just like Facebook and MySpace only it will be 100 times better.

    - Dwayne.

  92. sam

what ever happend to the Come All You Weary Video?

  93. Scott

Logan (and everyone here for that matter)-

What kind of world do we live in if you can’t be music critics? One of my best friends loves John Mayer and Dave Mathews and I constantly bash him about it and he constantly bashes me on liking AFI. You guys all need to chill the F out. I thinks its fun to make fun of bands that suck. Its not like I am expecting you to stop listening. If someone told me Thrice or whoever I liked sucked, I would laugh, especially if it was done cleverly. For example, you said that music is art and that i should know that being a thrice fan. I do know that. But I wouldn’t compare a Picasso to something hanging in a Denny’s or a Burger King. Just like I wouldnt compare thrice to a band like switchfoot. Haha, see how that works? Its all good man. I’m just having fun with you. If you want to listen to bands like Switchfoot, Staind, and Creed then be my guest. I’ll be the guy over here not murdering my ears.

PS Would you tell Picasso to sell one of his guitars?

  94. kate

    Scott-

Being a music critic is one thing, but spewing mindless rhetoric is another. So instead of just calling the said bands crap and possibly offending dedicated fans, you could maybe discuss the reasons why you don’t like their music? I think that would come across a lot more civilized than just blatant name calling. You know, just a thought.

  95. Scott

But blatant name calling is ever so much fun. Its a great past time of my friends and I. No one in here has ever called their friend a douche bag?

  96. kate

well personally, i think that is completely different…friends that know you will take it in a different manner, but for people who have no idea who you are, and the fact that you’re taking stabs at bands they like comes off a little harsh. i don’t doubt that you intended it to come out as more of a joke, but it’s just hard to convey and distinguish tones on this message board.

  97. Logan

Scott, the dynamic is completely different with friends. You’ve known them for a while, know how they’ll take things, etc. Or maybe your friends LIKE being told their music tastes suck, I don’t know. but here, you don’t know who is reading, you don’t know the people you’re talking to. no, sorry, I don’t like being told I should be punched in the vag. and, you’re saying you believe in critiquing music, which is inherently opinion-based, and then you’re still using absolutes like “such and such work of art sucks.” if you’re going to an offer an opinion, don’t deliberately try to offend people and don’t use ad hominem arguments.

  98. lucci

    Scott,

I’m totally cool with your hating. I mean, if you guys have been following thrice for awhile, you would recall the time teppei vented about how shitty alot of bands are that were playing with thrice at a festival. The festival had the word Buzz in it if i recall.

Anyway, people should not get so defensive about someone else’s words, especially when its over the internet and you dont know the person.

  99. Scott

I think we all need to calm down. Deep breaths people, deep breaths. On to other topics such as…anyone heard how amazing the new Boris and Portishead albums are? Way way good. Not as good as switchfoot, but good. You should check them out logan. Good stuff.

PS If you use quotes, make sure the words between those quotes are things that I actually said. Much love.

  100. Joe Harman

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=Dx7hJUsO5vs

checks this out guys. this dude does an awesome cover of milly michaelson. ive believe ive seen this dude do a digital sea cover too. both are fantastic. you all should enjoy it.

  101. lucci

“Way way good. Not as good as switchfoot, but good. You should check them out logan. Good stuff.”

    haha

  102. Scott

Finally someone appreciates the humor. Thank you Lucci.

  103. Ricky Denim

    I love Dave Matthews lol

  104. holly

i like john mayer’s music. so there. he is a sweet guitar player. i also like the words bozo and clown

  105. Katie

why do i feel like switchfoot is going to be the reason for the demise of the comments on this blog?

chill out, errrbody. i like this place and would hate for thrice to take it away because we cant agree on switchfoot ;-D

  106. Logan

Katie, I agree. everyone, I’m very sorry for any pain my liking of Switchfoot may have caused you…. now let’s move on.

  107. Katie

    oh & SCOTT

    the new portishead = MONEY.
    so good.
i love machine gun & the rip.
and i was really surprised by some of it.. very different approaches..
like “deep water,” in particular. almost like a song off the juno soundtrack hahah ;-)

  108. Ricky Denim

Heal the worrld. Make it a better place. For you and for mee….

  109. Hugo

I don’t know if it’s been said/requested, neither how hard is it to do, but could the mayor of Everywhereland also update the Sonnets on the thrice home page?
I remember when it was on myspace and I was so friggin curious to know the lyrics of Earth and Air.
I know it’s not really that much of a difference maker but I think it would look cool and more importantly give some closure.

  110. Tom

reading festival. Thrice followed by alkaline trio. now, i love the trio. and they have a new record out in June. the first song of which is available on their myspace. thrice are the most important band in the world obviously. But the question i ask you all is should i miss bloc party (who i’ve not seen before but are likly to be around for another few years) and stay and watch alkaline trio (who i have seen before, on last year’s crimson tour, just before seeing brand new, it was a beautiful month for Americans touring our fair shores) or shall i go see a triumphant nearly headline slot of kelle et al because “Flux” is the best single released here for about 5 years (since under a killing moon). this is my dilemma - http://www.readingfestival.com/lineup/
    what to do. . .

  111. luke

    tom,

im missing bloc party to see alkaline trio as i have never seen them before and i saw Bloc Party pay last time at reading, which was incredible by the way.

if you have seen alkaline trio before then i would say go see bloc party, but as bloc party are a british band they are likely to tour soon, i would imagine so anyway as they have been keeping low for a while and how ikely is it for alkaline trio to tour the uk soon?

i digress. i would say o see bloc party, its such a good slot for them and they are bound to be on top form, and even if they aren’t its not a long run to the ock up stage.

hope that utter rambling has helped.

  112. kate

i’m thinking the same thing as luke…i would go see bloc party because you haven’t seen them before…and they’re amazing!! but its true you will probably run into the chance of seeing them again sometime. hmmm….

i think it really depends who you REALLY want to see more. haha. i’m sure you have that answer, it’s just really hard to choose. but at least you’re seeing thrice? rock on.

  113. Trask

What?! Thrice followed by Alkaline Trio? I envy all of you who are going to see that.

  114. Denise

I wonder how hard it is to actually make a pedal..

    Teppei in flip flops. xD

  115. Tara

i saw you guys on tuesday night and wow wow wow, you just get better and better with every show. oh yeah and eddie- i saw that you were wearing a brand new shirt which made me super happy because you’re both my favorite bands. i think you should tour together again! :) but anyway, really great job. can’t wait to see you again some time soon.

ps i loved the beards. you all look adorable hahah

  116. alex

WHERE IS THE COME ALL YOU WEARY VIDEO!!!!!!????????

  117. Katie

are there any chicago people on here?

i’m trying to plan out my chicago weekend seeing thrice back to back at the metro and i want some insight!

  118. adam?

can i still bash nickelback plz?

  119. SeanLang

    Bash away adam.

  120. kate

thrice back to back would be so awesome :)

and seriously, this layout is making my eyes hurttttttttttttt

  121. Katie

yeah, kate.. i am pretty pumped about it :-D hopefully i’ll win the roadie contest too so i can see them again even after chicago! haha

umm itunes was suggesting, based on my owning AI Vol. III & IV, ashes divide.

uhhhhh… i’m sorry but thrice is far from crappy radio alterna-rock. what the heck. i am disappointed, itunes.

  122. Scott

Did they also suggest alter bridge or switchfoot?

  123. kate

OH EM EFF GEE……….what a shit dayyyyyyyyyyyyyy

thank fricken god i have a song for milly…and the whole entire thrice catalogue for that matter.

    thankyou.thankyou.thankyou.thankyou.

  124. Andrew

I was just listening to “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and I just thought…wouldn’t it be cool if Thrice covered that? Or would that be a train wreck?

  125. alvaro

    when COMEALLYOUWEARY video? thanks!

  126. Phil

I cant wait, im planning on seeing you guys in Philly, May 9!

  127. Chris

    I hate Journey.
    I hate that song.
    I hate Nickelback.

    Thrice should cover Van Halen

  128. luke

yeah van halen would be sweet.

    jump?

    or maybe hot for teacher?

get the guitar tapping solos going hahaha

  129. Chris

“Jump” would be the obvious choice. It’s such a good song.

Maybe “Panama”, “Dreams”, “Ain’t Talkin’ About Love”, or “You Really Got Me” (which, of course would be a cover of a cover, but whose counting). IMO I think Teppei could handle “Eruption”…?

I think they could make “Dance The Night Away” sound really cool.

Haha, I’m talking about this like it’s really going to happen…

I think Thrice should do a side project or something of cover songs. I mean, based on “The Earth Isn’t Humming” they retain the spirit of the song, while at the same time putting their own spin on things. I know that they covered a lot of songs way back in the day, and maybe they could give it a try. Just for fun…

  130. kate

Seriously, I loved how their Frodus covered remained so faithful to the original song, but still ended up being soooo different. Van Halen covers would be cool. Who else could they cover? Radiohead would be so awesome.

  131. Vince

    Tomorrow Night.
Thrice Concert for the First Time.
I am so stoked. I want to meet you guys.
I want you to sign my Eaaaarth Discccc.

    Is that even possible?
    I’m such a concert newb.

  132. Holly

    matchbox twenty. c’mon. ha.

has anyone seen amazing grace? off topic, but it is so good. sticks so close to the historical aspect…sweetness.

  133. Megan

    Vince -

Try hanging out around the bus, you might be able to catch at least one of them. And they are SUPER nice guys so more than likely they’ll hang out a second.

    Good luck!

    FYI - They’re in the blue bus…shhhh!

  134. Vince

Am I going to get the “you’re a creepy stalker” look?
    Or arrested?

    haha

  135. kate

    Vince-

    maybe.

haha but its all worth it. have fun at the concert!! if you do see the guys, can you maybe ask about some more canadian dates? that would be awesome. ah i’m excited for youuuuuuuuuu

  136. Ricky

Okay so I officially decided that Thrice is my favorite band(like always), and the runner-up is now officially Rage Against the Machine.

  137. israel

Well, I remember all the comments about some people having misprints and typos on their volume 4 disc…… I found a golden ticket in mine….ok not really, but you can imagine what it would be like if I did right…:)

  138. Jorge

haha Vince, I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about, I’d say go for it though, unless you meet the band before hand and they tell you otherwise or something. I got that impression from Teppei when I asked him if he was doing anything after the concert. I thought he’d be tired, especially after such a freakin’ awesome concert, so I decided not to bother them and have them have to tend to one less fan.

But yeah, go for it dude, and good luck!

  139. Vince

hey guys, just got back…awesome night, just amazing
i’ll type up a set-list tomorrow, but highlights:

    child of dust–incredible
    firebreather–intense
    the earth will shake–jawdropping

plus I got dustin and teppei to sign all four of my Alchemy index discs,
as well as a guitar pick dustin once used…
and damn are they just the nicest guys ever….

thanks everyone for the heads up! promise i’ll post more tomorrow…

PS: my girlfriend is so damn amazing. she’s just the sweetest for staying out all night with me, even after dealing with the crazy drunken moshers and their sick love of deadbolt. she’s a blessing

  140. Ben

    Please shave for Conan. ;-)

  141. Melissa H.

please don’t shave for Conan. ;)

  142. Jeff

    don’t shave for conan!!!

  143. Melissa H.

so The Alchemy Index Vols. 3 and 4 sold 21,424 copies in its first week, the best debut of an album Thrice has ever had (according to Rolling Stone magazine.. who just now decided to mention the album.. skipping the entire spring release issue.. which i felt was a huge mistake on their part). Congrats guys! That has to feel good, especially since they did it on their own.

  144. Tom GD

I know its been spammed to death already, but seriosuly-
    www.thricescene.com

Its where every true Thrice fan belongs!

  145. Trask

They can’t shave for Conan, then I won’t be able to witness the intense beardage at the May 7 show!

  146. Vince

Dustin–it was awesome meeting you. You’re def. an inspiration to me each and every day, so it meant alot to finally meet the man behind the lyrics. If you don’t remember me, I was the guy in the Thrice polo who got his picture taken with you with the camera phone (first one died, second one got it, haha). I also had you initial the old thrice guitar pick.

Anyways, I thought it was sad how little the people appreciated your new music. Sure when Deadbolt or Artist or Silhouette came on everyone was running around, bumping into each other, but when songs like Daedalus or Broken Lungs or even the incredible Child of Dust came on, they started acting stupid, joking with each other, drinking even more…totally disrespectful in my thought. When Child of Dust came on a couple even left, pissed off because they couldn’t “mosh to it.” Is that what music’s come to? Music you can throw you body against someone else’s to?

What you guys create is beautiful, and I hope you continue to make it for a long time to come. Because a world like this needs your music–the intelligent rock, the powerful rock, that doesn’t need to be fast and cheap to win its supporters but moves the soul within us, and makes us fall in love with the feeling we get.

Keep rocking out, and I hope to see you guys next time. Maybe then I can get you to sign my Please Come Home album. I was hitting myself for forgetting that. Cheers.

    Vince

  147. adam?

someone has to cover “don’t stop believin’” and it might as well be thrice.

  148. Katie

pshhh, apparently Teppei already shaved his beard off!
someone on thricescene saw them and reported it.

    WEAKSAUCE, TEPPEI. WEAKSAUCE.

or maybe the samurai finally got a job again?

  149. Trask

    Teppei’s beard is gone?!
    This is a tragedy.

  150. Katie

    i know, dude.
he so could’ve toughed out one more month.

  151. kate

    haha NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

but can you imagine the itch from that thing. dear goodness. i hope they took a group photo before that happened though.

  152. Chase

This is a comment for Katie, a responce to her bashing of Ashes Divide…

First.. I find it quite hypocritical that you just cast off an entire band without knowing to much, or hearing the whole album… I thought one of the highlights of being a Thrice fan was that we looked deeper before jumping to judgments…

Ashes Divid is a pretty much one person band of Billy Howerdels, guitar player and master mind of A Perfect Circle…

If you don’t know A Perfect Circle, I’m sorry, one of the greatest bands ever… (Along with Tool, Maynard is the man (also singer of APC, which you would know if you know APC))

If you don’t like it, you don’t like it I guess.. But I don’t think you could have possibly given it a chance… He is a great musician. And since his band is defunct, he went on some solo stuff… So what if its up beat… So many bad things can be said about Thrice based off one or two listens..

The main point being… Why bash? Why judge.. To each his own…

  153. Chase

Here is a follow up Link… It is a live acoustic performance from some radio show… Just watch and see that he is a great singer and guitar player and musician…

    And say your sorry.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVoVw1oIIQ8&feature=related

  154. Vince

oh man i can’t believe i forgot to mention that Teppei cut his beard off, haha. yeah he’s all clean-shaven now. totally cool guy. on our way back to the car we were practically following him.

oh, and dustin seemed to be having problems. he was tired for sure, but he seemed almost sick. i hope he’s feeling better though…especially after that intense “the earth will shake” throwdown. that must have taken alot out of him.

again, incredible performance. my girlfriend was a semi-thrice fan (she got a bit tired of me playing it all the time), but after seeing them live she can’t stop listening to them now. you just can’t fake raw power in music like that.

  155. holly

only an idiot wouldn’t like thrice.

that is my heart of hearts…

  156. Vince

okay, setlist from the national in richmond, va on 05/03/08

    silhouette
    stare at the sun
    trust
    broken lungs
the earth isn’t humming (really awesome)
    artist in the ambulance
    all that’s left
daedalus (powerful as hell, and I could hear the pain in dustin’s voice…)
    come all you weary
digital sea (awesome with the distortion)
    firebreather (insanely epic ending)
    the whaler (beautiful)
of dust and nations (first song–fantastic beginning)
    red sky
    burn the fleet
    deadbolt

    encore:
    child of dust (jaw-dropping)
    the earth will shake (intense)

the only thing to make that set-list even more amazing
    is if they’d have played:

    a song for milly
    for miles
    digging my own grave

BUT I am not a greedy person,
and i enjoyed every second of watching them rock out.
oh, and i loved watching Teppei head back to Riley during the heavy, fast songs,
and they’d just smile at each other, and were just having fun.
    it was all pretty awesome.

oh AND dustin put a I beside the V on my Earth disc when he signed it.
    so awesome.

    okay im done, i swear.

  157. Katie

chase, i’m not going to get into it with you.
don’t take offense to everything on here.
and like you said, to each his own.
i listened to them, and i don’t like them.
but i’m sure they’re doing fine even if i don’t support them.
    end of topic.

  158. Jordan

So when are you guys going to release a Special Edition mega version of the Alchemy Index??? The new stuff is incredible, and I look forward to seeing it live. The Fire & Water stuff was awesome when I last saw you guys. And of course the old stuff is great. The longer your set the better!

  159. the guy who fell in the water

Man, I’m stoked till you guys finally get back to Cali.

Keep it up guys. and please stay healthy

  160. Chris

I just saw Wicked at the Pantages last night.

Holy freakin’ crap that plot is like the thickest plot ever.

Oh yeah, and the music was phenomonal too!

  161. Jorge

    Thrice on Conan tonight right?

  162. JM

    i believe so!!

  163. Tyler

    ADAM

I know a band that has covered “Dont Stop Believin” the bands name is “flight 409″

i know the band personally they played it pretty good i thought. Also “Flight 409″ is getting more recognized, since they have toured with SAOSIN and other big bands. CHECK EM OUT!!!

  164. Trask

Thrice skipping “For Miles” on Saturday makes me feel a lot better about its chances being played on Wednesday, huzzah! And I hope Dustin’s not sick, that would be sad.

  165. Weihsin

oh hmmmm i don’t know if you guys wanna see, but for a school project, i
i did with my friend a Thrice web site (not published anywhere but on
my school server). Ok I know we’ve used some old Thrice pictures, that
it’s not complete and that it’s in french ;) but if you want, check it
    out.

    yeah well.

    hahaha no more beards.

  166. Weihsin

    oups here’s the link.

    http://ecours.bdeb.qc.ca/r/H08R-INF/INFBBR02-public_html/e024b51c0/web%20final%20thrice/index.html

  167. Katie

so there’s recent live videos on youtube
and it’s so freakin’ weird to see teppei clean-shaven now.
like, i can’t even handle it.

maybe by the time chicago rolls around, he’ll have re-grown it. ha

  168. HAY

Thrice is playing on Conan i hope tonight….

  169. Jorge

yeah, even on Conan’s site it has Thrice as special guest, can’t wait!

  170. Chris

What! I thought they said that they were going to go the whole tour without shaving…

Maybe the good folks at NBC have a dress code…

  171. Chris

Anyone have an extra ticket to any of the SoCal shows?
I would gladly buy it off of you…maybe we could work something out.

I didn’t originally buy one because those dates are all during finals week, but I dropped a few classes since then so my schedule suddenly opened up.

    Seriously…

  172. matt

    Chris-
if i win the whole roadie contest thing, i might (hahaha). but not until then, sorry.

  173. Chris

Because I just looked on eBay, and good lord, there is no way ever that I will pay that much for tickets.
    Wow!

  174. dswish

    amazing on conan.

  175. Jorge

yeah, they were awesome. wish I could’ve been there cheering for them myself.

  176. Denise

You guys did an AMAZING job on Conan tonight. Great job! :D

  177. jessica

just saw the conan performance. They played Come all you Weary. good job guys!

  178. matt

    stupid east coasters…. im still waiting…. :(

  179. Jess

can someone please record or whatever the conan performance? i live in aus :( or show me where i can view it? thanks!
    x

  180. Jess

oops ! i found on it on youtube! :)

  181. Moony

great job guys! what model tele was that on conan?

  182. Jack

    what the eff!

    Teppei totally shaved his beard.

  183. Mike

Come All You Weary on Conan was nice! I dig Teppei’s Tele and Blues Deville… really nice tones.

  184. Mike

Or was it a Bassman? Hmm. It was 1:30 in the morning, and I only got up to watch it, then went back to bed… so I wasn’t too observant, haha.

  185. Trask

Okay, relatively important question: how long have the shows been running this tour? I’m estimating four hours. If that’s wrong, it would be nice if someone could tell me. :)

My enjoyment of the Conan performance was diluted by my sadness at the departure of Teppei’s beard. Not really. But still.

  186. JM

the conan performance was pretty damn sweet.
dustin sounded a little sick though…get well!

  187. Chris

I TiVo’d it and watched it this morning.
    It did sound really good.

  188. Vince

yeah, Dustin def. seemed sick. in parts of it his voice seemed to falter. that sucks, because i could tell he was a bit sick on sat. and it must have been stressful knowing you’d be on live TV–espec. a show like Conan–and being sick. but he is devoted, that’s for sure.

    awesome job guys…it was fantastic.

  189. dswish

yeah, i was a little sad when i saw teppei’s beard was no more. :(

  190. Jorge

Teppei looks great w/o his beard though, so at least that much huh?

  191. luke

    Conan was pretty sweet.

so glad it was up on youtube really quickly as it doesnt air her in the UK.

Teppei looks so much younger with out his beard.

me and my friends are having a ‘beard-off’ at the mo. i look a bout 5 years older than i am. im only 20…
its hard resisting not shaving, its sooo itchy. its been almost 2 months, ahhhhh

  192. kate

umm i don’t know if i’m the only one (the last few comments have been very positive) but i didn’t think that yesterdays performance on Conan was all that great? i just didn’t feel it that time, and it sounded like they didn’t really either. and if it was because dustin was sick, i hope he’s feeling tons better :)

  193. luke

i liked it, i thought it sounded good, but i do see where your coming from kate.

they looked quite tired, but its understadable, they are in the middle of touring.

rest up guys, we want you on top form for reading festival

  194. luke

i liked it, i thought it sounded good, but i do see where your coming from kate.

they looked quite tired, but its understadable, they are in the middle of touring.

rest up guys, we want you on top form for reading festival.

on another note, does none know what effects teppei was building?

me and a friends built a delay into a bass guitar recently for a bit of fun, came out pretty good.

  195. luke

sorry, didnt mean to post twice.

think of it as some kind of an ‘extended edition’ to the first post….

  196. elaine

you guys were great on conan. if you need help on your french homework, je peux vous aider!

ahhhh, i have my grade 8 guitar exam first thing in the morning and then my grade 5 theory the next day. just the thought of it is making me ill.
i think its going to be an all nighter in practice tonight…maybe if i dont fall asleep at the guitar that is.

i have posted way to many times on this forum today. probably seems it anyway as most of the people who post on here seem to be american and im from the UK so there is that time difference, im the only one around this time of day to post, haha.

i should really post this and get on with work, im totally just stalling my typing now….

  198. HAY

    good job on conan!

  199. matt

guys… i have to ask all of your opinions on something.
my cousin and i are going to get tattoos on his birthday in a few months, so im trying to figure out what i want.
i think i want to get the line “remove the cancer, take back your souls”, but i dont know what design i want to go with it.

    help?

  200. luke

    matt

i had the line ‘if we could only see us now’ tattooed around my wrist. its pretty simple, but looks really nice.

where were you thinking of getting it done?

were you get it my determin how its done, as mine was around my wrist i didnt want it too fancy.

go tot he place your going to get it done at and ask them to come up with some script ideas, the artist who did mine came up with about 15 different fonts and styles for mine.

hope that helped in any way.

  201. Vince

nice matt. i’m not experienced in that area, but i want to get one too. i think mine will be “i’ll breathe in fire and know i’m free.”

  202. matt

    luke-
    thanks for the help!

    anybody else?

  203. trevor

I have thought about getting Hold Fast Hope in hebrew on my forearm…

  204. Ron

I had an amazing opportunity to see Thrice in a restaurant last night. It was probably the most awkward moments of my life because I was on a choir trip and the first mention of “famous band” would have sent the choir filled restaurant into chaos. So instead of interrupting their large dinner party, I followed Dustin down to the restroom (which is by no means less awkward). For a brief moment I considered singing “…the lions outside of the door” just outside the restroom, but decided I was already being creepy enough. In the end a simple hello did it and it was great to meet you. Thanks for your huge amount of patients and excellent music. Hope you guys have a great tour.

  205. Mike

One day I’m going to find out everything that’s in Teppei and Dustin’s pedalboards, and it will be a good day.

  206. kate

    matt-

getting a tattoo is a huge thing!! haha, i’m not sure what kinda of ideas would suit, but really, try to come up with something on your own…the tattoo will probably end up meaning MORE to you than if someone else threw the idea.

whatever you decide to get though, i hope it turns out super cool and awesome. i mean, with the line you chose, looks like you’re already halfway there!

    and ron-

    hahahaha. you should have sang.

  207. matt

    kate-
haha thanks! i thought that line was quite awesome myself! i really love that song…

  208. zach

get whatever means everything to you (as a tattoo) because it’s going to stay on there forever.
Recently, after a really rough period of life, I got my first tattoo, that says “the LORD’s” in Hebrew on my wrist. I had nothing left to trust in, except God. Every day is getting better, and that tattoo reminds me everyday to whom I truly belong, who gives me hope and joy, and who knows who I really am.
I think “remove the cancer, take back your souls” is a great line, by the way. just as long as it means a lot to you. tattoos are like marriages, sometimes - they mean more and more to you as you go on, or you make a really big mistake listening to everybody else and regret what you do :).
    good luck, lovezachary

  209. Katie

    Ron..
    i literally LOLed..
because i invisioned that.. and yeah, i think dustin might have been completely creeped out.

but it would’ve been real fun to watch all that go down!

what restaurant did you see them at? inquiring minds must know!

  210. SeanLang

Why get a tattoo in a different language? I mean, i do understand i guess, but you know…wouldn’t you want most people to be able to read it?

That said i think people should get really stupid tattoos that they might regret later because i think it’s funny. So if you even think about getting a retarded tattoo of something, just do it and then later wish you hadn’t but then even later laugh and be like, man i’m an idiot, that was fun though. If you end up looking like Steve-O from Jackass, i say job well done. Hahaha.

  211. matt

    zach-
that line is a reminder to me to get the crap out of my life, and take my soul back from evil.
it can also be a great conversation/witnessing starter. haha

  212. Katie

i was just about to say i wish all my word tattoos were in a language other than english because i’m tired of people always asking what they say… but that wouldn’t help at all haha.

just be aware that if you get a tattoo in a visible spot, people will ALWAYS ask you about it.

i never really thought about that before i got tattooed, and now i kind of get annoyed everyday because people won’t stop asking me questions about them.

    matt-

not that this is like, promoting BLATANT copying of other tattoos, you should check out www.bmezine.com for the tattoos gallery. you can check out other peoples’ lettering tattoos and whatnot. you might get an idea of what you like and don’t like.

  213. holly

if i got a tattoo i’d get 1cor1:18 tattooed on my wrist.

    or prov 1:7

or both. too bad im a chicken and wont.

hebrew writing is pretty, i’m sure someone would comment and that’d be an open door for discourse

  214. Ron

To the question you asked earlier Katie, it was in New York. To be honest I cant really remember the name. It was an Italian restraunt though. It was a funny experience, and I know in the end I would have kicked myself for not saying anything.

  215. Jimmy

    Baltimore tonight:

    Lion and the Wolf
    All That’s Left
    Silhouette
    Firebreather
    Digital Sea
    Broken Lungs
then the order goes out the window
    Red Sky
    Of Dust and Nations
    Artist in the Ambulance
Stare at the Sun (Dustin solo - I think they were fixing the drums)
    Trust
    Deadbolt
    Burn the Fleet
    Open Water
    The Earth isn’t Humming
    Come All You Weary
    Last: Daedalus
    Encore: The Earth Will Shake

Pretty good set. However, some technical difficulties involving Tep’s guitar. Dustin, I really hope your throat gets better - shaky during Silhouette, but after that it was just a straight up ballsy performance from Mr. Kensrue. I noticed Teppei didn’t do as much harmony for some of the Alchemy songs, but when he did come in, it sounded just fine, so I can’t imagine he’s sick too…? The Earth isn’t Humming was the only tricky song here - might have been good to open or something with that, before letting us hear the kind of volume we get for the rest of the show - it sounded a little hollow, as it undoubtedly should/will, so yeah it was interesting. Don’t think tons of people knew it. Still, great show. I loved hearing Red Sky live for the first time, and Teppei sounded really good during Dust and Nations for whatever reason (better than album on guitar - might be the tele?).

Props to Circa Survive. They kicked major ass as well. So much so that someone proposed to his girlfriend before ‘In Fear and Faith’. I did notice both had Xs on their hands, and didn’t look over 18, but it was still really neat. Alright guys, sleep time. Later

  216. Joe Harman

really really sad i didnt get dont tell or child of dust. they left out dont tell at the bmore show on the brand new tour as well… :(

maybe it was because of dustins voice, which sounded pretty awesome all things considered. when he spoke it sounded ill but he sung quite well. oh well..great show nonetheless.

p.s. im studying abroad in australia from july-november. if you guys do a tour there during that time, that would be totally tits…just sayin.

  217. Melissa H.

i loved the Conan performance. it did seem a little off.. but that’s half the fun of a live performance.. the little imperfections make it seem so real. plus, i loved Ed’s little bow when they were done.. ha.

  218. alex

the conan show was rad.. although i wish they did another song like daedalus where its more of the whole band.. come all you weary leaves out the breckenridges alot i think.. even though theyre playing its mainly dustin and teps.. which im not complaining about but yeah.. just would have been nice

  219. Katie

well if you guys think about it, they’re promoting a single for the album, and they chose the single to be CAYW. there’s a music video for it (please give it to us soon!), so why would they play something other than CAYW? ;-)

  220. Sean

    Just a little btb…

Yubtub took all the videos of conan execpt one of the site due to third party copyright…(translation) NBC didn’t want anybody going to other sites then theirs because it takes away from people looking at their adverstisments…sounds like shenanigans to me…oh there is one vid left and they let it stay because someone recorded from a camera not there tv so enjoy.

  221. Craig

Heres the set list from Bamboozle Festival 5/4 in Jersey.

It was only a 30 min set list but the show was great, im hittin the Clifton Park show 5/12 too so Ill keep everyone posted.

  222. Dan

There may have only been those 8 songs, but those are probably the best eight songs the play.

  223. Craig

    -Dan
It was definitely an amazing show, I think Dustin said he was a little sick but he still sounded great. Heres a link to Come All You Weary off of youtube. I didnt take the video but it still sounds awesome.

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=3jLaJMF101A

I really look forward to seeing them again soon.

  224. Joe

Anyone know what effects Tep uses in “For miles” near the end riff?
    is that a wah?

  225. Joe

and i wanna know your setup thrice!
    *hint hint*

  226. Joe Harman

they announced at the b more show that the video will be on absolutepunk.net on friday

  227. alex

where do thrice go now? please tell me theyre not stopping

  228. lucci

aiyo joe, im sure thats a whammy pedal set on one octave up setting

  229. Aric

First comment at 1:26am Central Time!!!! (lame…)

You guys rock, and despite the lack of any Missouri shows, I still love ya. So much, in fact, that i just made a short film for a school project which includes not one, but TWO songs from Earth: “Digging My Own Grave” and “Child Of Dust”. Actually, the film itself is called “Child Of Dust”. It’s some heavy and deep shit!

On a side note…the pic is practically an ad for Apple! Product Placement = $$$$$$$$$$$$$

  230. Joe

unfortunately for me, i dont own digitech’s 200$ whammy..
i do have a phaser and a wah, so i may use those two…

    thanks for the help.

  231. Trask

    Setlist from Hartford:

    Lion and the Wolf
    All That’s Left
    Silhouette
    Broken Lungs
    Firebreather
    Digital Sea
    Of Dust & Nations
    Trust
    The Earth Isn’t Humming
    The Artist in the Ambulance
    Lost Continent
    Burn the Fleet (!!!)
    Stare at the Sun
    Come All You Weary
    Daedalus
    Deadbolt
    For Miles

    Encore:
    The Earth Will Shake

My personal favorites: Firebreather, Daedalus, and For Miles.

Dustin did say he was getting over being sick, and it was pretty evident in his voice. By the time For Miles came around, his voice sounded really tired. The song was still amazing, though.

It would have been cool if they’d played more from Vheissu (only 2 songs — 3 counting the encore), but seeing as the other Vheissu songs on the setlist are Hold Fast Hope and Stand and Feel Your Worth, I can see why they’d omit them. Dustin wasn’t screaming a lot and those songs sort of require lots of screaming.

The crowd was pretty well-behaved until right after Daedalus, at which point EVERYONE started screaming “DEADBOLT!!!” but Thrice wisely decided to play Deadbolt right then, so all was well.

My favorite part of the concert was definitely the kids trying to mosh to Digital Sea and The Earth Isn’t Humming. Dustin made some comment about it. I fully expected a half-hearted mosh pit during Lost Continent, but sadly, the kids seemed to have learned their lesson.

In conclusion: Dustin, get better, and Thrice, you are awesome.

  232. luke

i am actually half way through my theory exam as i write this…hahaha.

i should so be getting on with it…

anyway. if you look at some the pictures you can get a goood idea of what equipment they use.

in the fire pictures you can see most of teeppeis pedal board, and in another pic you can see someone elses pedal board (may have been dustins old one).

i know dustin also used to use a marchall JCM 800 50W lead series head. although he has switched to line 6 comleatly i think.

  233. Mo

At the Bmore show; it was an awesome set. but after seeing people say they got to see thrice play “Child of Dust” before “The Earth will Shake” as part of their encore. That must’ve been awesome, oh well. I loved the “Stare into the Sun” with just Dustin, it was a nice way to calm everyone down ha. “Dust of Nations” was so sick. Everything was awesome, as always. the end.

  234. Vince

Did he use the distorter on Digital Sea? That was pretty intense.
And yeah the kids were trying to mosh when they played the Earth Isn’t Humming in VA. Constantly annoying.

  235. Mo

yeah vince, i hated those kids. and yeah he used a distorter during that song.

  236. JS

they also played open water at bamboozle which was a nice treat.
