CONAN PICS, VIDEOS, AND PHILLY CHEESESTEAKS
May 8th, 2008 Thanks to those of you who tuned in and watched or TiVoed us on Conan O’Brien on Monday night. It was an amazing experience; not only getting to play, but getting to see Conan’s rehearsals, seeing how they put together bits and the monologue, how they decide what stays and what goes, and getting to meet Conan (who was really stoked on Teppei’s Nash guitar, btw). Performing on TV is always a little scary at first, but the rush of playing and then having everything go well is really gratifying. If you missed it, you can see it on NBC.com. The multi-talented musician, backline tech, computer wizard/programmer, and photographer, Chris Jones, took some photos during rehearsal.
In other news, the “Come All You Weary” video is done, and will be premiering on absolutepunk.net on Friday. We’re really happy with how it turned out, and I actually think it’s the quickest editing process we’ve ever been a part of. Zach (Merck), the director, did an awesome job. Hope you all enjoy it. Let us know what you think in the comments. We’re in Philly tomorrow at the Electric Factory (one of my favorite venues). A trip to South Street, and Jim’s Steaks is in order. Playing on (and especially meeting him and the people) Conan is one of those things that if I were a true musician I’d dream of. Kudos all the way. And see if you can get those last two Sonnets on thrice.net on, if it ain’t too much trouble, please.

So the Come All You Weary Video is without a doubt your best video yet. Whereas Digital Sea had a very artistic feel to it–poetic in terms of design–Come All You Weary delivers in poetry as well as feeling. The cuts to the weary, the laboring, the young and old–they’re perfect, and the switch between all four to just Dustin and Teppei outside the barn was awesome. This was one of, if not the best, music video I’ve ever seen.
The player’s still on, and “Broken Lungs” has just come on. Is it horrible that I’d like to see a music video for that? It’d be something else…that’s for sure.

The Conan performance was quite awesome! I wasn’t able to stay up and watch it, but did record it the old school way! Watched it in the A-M the the next day as I was eating my breakfast, before work… “Come All You Weary,” is starting to be one of my favs! I loved the feel of the video too! You dudes are always wowing me… no matter what you do! Keep rockin’! I get to see ya in a week! Gotta love Chicago!

Red Sky is still my favorite vid, especially because of the water drums,
although CAYW is very likely your best yet.
The one thing I’d change about Red Sky is that I’d… make the sky, well, turn red. Right at the end of the empire part perhaps, sort of alternating between colors maybe. Gotta have that awesome blue it has.

Scott, I would have gone by myself for sure, but since I’m still 17
my parents wouldn’t let me drive out there alone, which is a pretty
far drive and I wouldn’t just leave my house,because sunday is
mothers day and I wouldn’t do that to my mom. It gave me the worst
feeling not being able to see them after I spent $50 and
won’t be able to see both Thrice and Circa Survive together touring
for a while. The same thing happened to me on their tour with
Brand New too, where my friends screwed me over.

my best friend and i are attending the Pittsburgh show (so yay for that!)
i promised myself i wouldn’t ask for any songs to be played.. but what could it hurt? now, i’ve got the whole song pool thing down, meaning i know better to ask for any songs not on it (for instance, it would be silly for me to ask for Blood Clots and Black Holes, even if i really wanted it ;) ) so anyways.. my friend would love it if you guys played The Whaler. and i would be so grateful if you just happened to be feeling like playing Hoods on Peregrine on Wednesday. that being said.. i’m just excited to be seeing you guys again, no matter what you decide to play (obviously.. ) and for a fun little note.. this will be the 3rd state we’ve seen you in over the past few years.. ha.

So last night I was hanging out with a friend and an awesome thing happened. He was getting ready to leave so we decided to listen to a song. (We always skip through the Ipod to find an appropriate song to end on when we hang out) We were standing outside and it was a windy night. You could hear the wind blowing through the trees. (I live out in the country where trees arn’t in sidewalks) Anyway he turned on his truck and the first song that came on his Ipod(which was on random) was a Song for Milly Michelson… It was a great song before but with the enhanced element of wind blowing it was awesome!! It made the song like 20 times better… Then I got to thinking.. I am going to go dig some holes and listen to earth… Go burn something and listen to fire, and chill in a pool and listen to water… It makes the CD’s way better….

Tonight in Clifton Park was amazing. Great crowd and the setlist was AMAZING. I’m trying to piece it together right now but i’m sure it’ll be up eventually…i’ll tell you now though they played FOR MILES for the encore. Amazing.

CLIFTON PARK SHOW = AMAZING!!!!! The set list was soo great and it seemed like everyone in Thrice was at their best. The crowd was pretty awesome too. very respectful,Except for one drunk guy Dustin had to kick out but there has to be that jerk. It was probably the best Thrice show I’ve been too if not the best SHOW I’ve been to period.

Mmmm yes, drunk guy was ridiculous and had to take attention away from the band. i was standing a foot away from him when the whole thing happened. Everyone wanted to jump the guy, but it was handled well and Dustin was very cool about it and talked right to the guy and told him to “Just go outside and chill”…after all that b.s. they went into Daedalus to calm everyone down. Good timing?!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I had the weirdest dream the other night… It started out after the Thrice show in San Fran (which hasn’t happened yet) All of a sudden I was in the motel walking down this hall… I think the rooms were in the 60’s… All of a sudden Dustin walked around the corner with his big bushy beard.. I was like WOAH!!! But I didn’t freak out I was totally cool.. I caught up to him and was like, great show man, I really admire your work. And then he was like “Thanks man, do you wanna come hang out?” HELL YEAH I WANNA HANG OUT!! So anyway we walk down the hall to Thrice’s room (curiously it was a room at the end of a hall… Motels don’t really put rooms at the end of halls like that..) I don’t know for certain but the room might have been # 69… Anyway the dream kind of jumps around a little bit.. All of a sudden we are in the room and Dustin is just kind of sitting on a queen size bed.. There is only one bed in the room so the 4 have to see who is sleeping on the bed and who is sleeping on the ground… For some Teppei wasn’t around… Anyway, Teppei and Dustin were going to share the bed. Ed was laying next to the wall reading some philosphy book, still wearing his hoodie. Riley’s bed was two chairs that came in the room.. You know like when your a kid and you pull to chairs together to make a bed? That is where he was sleeping… Anyway… Riley and I started talking and he pulled out a guitar and started busting some major riffs… Weird thing was there was no amp… The music just came out of nowhere… It turned out that he had the same guitar as I do! And LTD EC1000.. SWEET!!! We talked for awhile about music and different bands we liked… I don’t know why I was only talking to Riley.. Ed was just reading.. Teppei was MIA and Dustin was just chillin on the bed… In my dream I found out that Riley likes Tool and Lamb of God, who knew? And he is also pretty much the most amazing guitar player in the world… Anywho.. At that point I was conscience of my dream, so I tried to malipulate it… (It works sometimes..) But sadly this time in the process of trying to get a jam session going, I woke up… :( But anyway it was a pretty cool dream… I think it will culminate into DEJAVU… So if you wan’t to hang out with Thrice in a hotel room go to the holiday in, rooms 60ish..
I just thought I would share that amazing story with everyone… If you have any other Thrice related dreams bust them out…
Also at this time I would like to say: Thrice, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE play “Like Moth to Flames” on the 25th in San Fran… Don’t you know me? I could never be ashamed of you!!!!

and the show was amazing.. i’m pretty sure it’s now my favorite show ever. i was right up front directly in front of Teppei.. Pelican was sweet, Circa played an amazing show and of course Thrice owned. it’s weird because there was no back of the building.. so the buses were right in front of the front door.. so that was cool. i saw Ed walking in when i was in line (getting rained on.. ) and i tried waving.. but i’m not sure if he saw :( there were about 5 people between us and they just stared.. had no clue who he was.. lol. i didn’t really want to call out and cause a commotion.. we waited afterwards for a minute or so.. but there were sooo many people waiting because the buses were right out front that we figured there was almost no point.. on a side note.. i got one of Circa’s set lists.. i was thrilled. sorry this was so long..

jon: thanks for correcting me! see, i live in ohio.. it’s about a 2 our drive home.. and i stayed the night in Pitt.. so by the time i got home with all the excitement i KNEW i was messing things up.. i even listened to all the songs i thought i messed up and i SWORE i was screaming every song they’ve ever recorded.. lol.. so yea, i knew i messed a few things up.. and yes there was the “lets go pens!” chants and also Ed asked the crowd if they ever saw the movie “Roundhouse”(?) or something like that because the place reminded him of it.. it was a collective no.. ha.
also.. if the guy who sung back up during Stare was right behind you.. you must have been practically right behind me.. that’s kind of cool :) were you there during Circa? because i thought it was cool how the guys kept coming out and hanging out right by that door and watching them perform..
